Focus on strengthening basic policing: Sinha

Rourkela: Newly appointed Superintendent of Police, Amitendra Nath Sinha, said that he will give top to basic policing to deal with law and order and prevention of road accident.

Interacting with media persons, Sinha said that a plan is being made to carry out policing with the involvement of all citizens of Rourkela. Cooperation from all sections of society is required for a peaceful, disciplined society, he added.

“For better policing, we have launched a website www.rourkelapolice.in with provision of receiving complaints on-line,” the SP noted. “We have also decided to put information boards with telephone numbers of all police stations at all tourist places in a bid to curb anti-social activities. In case of any emergency, one can dial 100 to seek help from Police Seva Kendra (PSK) which was made operational in December,” Sinha added.

As for traffic management and accident control, the SP said that there is a proposal to deploy interceptor vehicles to check speed of vehicles while more PCR vans will be mobilized in all sectors of the Steel City.

Most issues related to law and order could be addressed with basic policing, Sinha said, adding that thrust will be on providing better service.

The SP, after taking charge on December 19, is extensively visiting various parts of the district to take stock of ground realities. Police-public interactions will be organised at several places in the city so as to encourage people to trust and confide in police, he said.

On rash driving and traffic violations, Sinha said steps will be taken against triple riders, fractured number plates and multiple horns under MV Acts and MV Rules. Wearing helmets for bikers will be monitored while there will be crack-down on traffic violators, he added.

About action against Maoist activities, Sinha said Rourkela and its border areas do not see any left wing activities.
