More business expected at Swadeshi Mela this New Year


Rourkela: Subrata Pattnaik, Chairman, Centre for Bharatiya Marketing Development (CBMD), Rourkela, said that the annual Swadeshi Mela this new year will register a bigger turn over than the Rs. 70 lakh it had notched up last year. The CBMD will organise the nine-day 14th Swadeshi Mela from January 5 at Bhanja Bhawan near Exhibition Ground here.

Addressing a press conference today at Bramahani Club here, Pattnaik informed that more than 200 stalls will be put up during this nine-day mela that aims at encouraging medium and small-scale entrepreneurs in the context of globalisation and increased competition.

He said that CBMD, a unit of Swadeshi Jagaran Foundation, aims at striking a balance by strengthening swadeshi goods for the country’s overall development. CBMD is now concentrating on efforts to instill Swadeshi thoughts to provide further impetus to the movement that works to guide ‘bharatiya’ enterprises to become self-reliant by competing globally, and thus promote the national economy in the ‘bharatiya’ way.

He further said the Swadeshi Mela focuses on the capabilities and achievements of 'bharatiya' trade, industries and services. Farmers and traders from across the country will participate in the mela with their swadeshi products.

In the time-limit of 11 am to 9 pm, the organisers have planned a host of activities, beisdes the over 200 stalls for business and display of swadeshi handicraft, handloom, from teracotta to hi-tech items, furniture, household products, fabrics and hosiery, tools, jewellery, herbal products, handicrafts, cottage and small industry products, carpets, pottery and interior decoration. Electronics majors like Onida, Usha, IFB, Crompton Greaves, Bajaj, Prestige, Godrej, Cookwell, Glen, Solar System, Parilion etc. will also participate in the mela.

Apart from this other stalls like NSIC, Haldiram, GITS, Grihasthi, Mother Pickles, Cycle, Agarbati, Anmol biscuit, Ruchi, Tata Tea, Shree Khetra, Emami, Dabur and motors bikes stalls like Tata Motors, Mahindra, TVS, Hero and Bajaj will be put up.

The special attraction in this mela will be ‘Property Mela and Road Rider (NIT)’ stalls. A cultural extravaganza will also be organised on the sidelines of the Mela, in which ‘ALIVA Construction’ has planned to stage cine-star Sabyasachi as the star of attraction.

Pattnaik informed that the entry fee has been reduced to Rs. 2 from Rs. 5.
