Sharma takes over as DIG(WR)

Rourkela: Rajendra Kumar Sharma took over as new Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police, Western Range (WR), yesterday.

A 1995-batch IPS officer, Sharma was earlier the DIG (Southern range) headquarters in Berhampur. He succeeded Yashwant Jethwa, who is on a study tour to the UK to pursue PhD in Criminology at Cambridge University. Jethwa has been promoted to IG rank.

This post was lying vacant since November and the DIG (Northern range) Sanjaya Kumar, was in-charge of the post.

Senior officials welcomed Sharma after he took charge. Sharma had earlier served as the SP in Berhampur.

Meanwhile, 2002-batch IPS officer Amitendra Nath Sinha, who was commandant of Special Operation Group (SOG) will take over as Rourkela SP replacing 2003-batch IPS officer Himanshu Lal. Lal will join the enforcement directorate under the Central Government. A farewell ceremony was organised for Lal yesterday.
