Bhubaneswar: Secretary Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) Durga Shankar Mishra and Additional Secretary and Mission Director AMRUT Shiv Das Meena visited the various on-going projects across the city under Smart City Mission and also reviewed the works at the office of Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL). They also visited the Bhubaneswar Operations Centre (BOC), the command and control centre for the city. The Union Secretary of MoHUA also visited the housing project at Rangamatia and paid his respect to Lord Lingaraj, the presiding deity of Ekamra Kshetra, the ancient region which was later named as Bhubaneswar. The senior bureaucrat from the Centre reviewed the flagship missions of MoHUA, and visited the BOC developed under the Smart City Mission. Bhubaneswar: Leading Capital Goods (CG) producers from across the globe inked 38 MoUs with leading Indian steel companies envisaging reduction in imports of CGs meant for the steel sector worth Rs 39,400 crore by promoting manufacturing of capital goods in the country. The MoUs were signed at a Conclave in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday which was organized by Ministry of Steel, Government of India in association with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and MECON. The National Steel Policy- 2017 envisages creation of 300 million tonnes (MT) of steel capacity in the country by 2030-31 as against existing 130 MT. The estimated import of plant and equipment, for reaching 300 MT capacity, will be around USD 25 billion. Further, for meeting the spares requirement, it is estimated that at 300 MT capacity level, India will have to spend about USD 500 million annually for import of proprietary and other spares. Two radio jingles are also aired through three FM stations to take the message to more people. Soon a tableau will also roll out to intensify the campaign and advertisements in film theatres on restricted use of plastic and Swachha Survekshyan 2019 will be screened, for more and more citizen participation. Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started de-weeding the historic Bindusagar Lake in the wake of the Bhubaneswar Art Trail-2018 (BAT), coinciding with the Odisha Hockey Men's World Cup as the 1.3 km trail of art related activities are likely to attract huge tourist footf all between November 18 and December 18. Bhubaneswar: As the city decorates itself with a new colour to welcome Goddess Durga, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken up several measures including the development of four immersion ponds (under construction), so that the festival will be safe and with minimal pollution. The sanitation agencies and sanitation workers of BMC have been asked to carry out extra cleaning work near Puja pandals to make them clean. Puja organisers were advised to use extra dustbins. The civic body has asked the Puja organisers to have restricted use of synthetic substance, colour and more use of organic things by so that there would be minimal pollution during immersion. Bhubaneswar: Indrani Chhatria, a student of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), has been chosen the captain of Odisha Women’s U-19 cricket team. This is for the first time a student from KISS got captainship of Odisha girls’ Cricket team. Indrani will lead Odisha team in Under-19 Women T-20 Tournaments. Another KISS student, Sonali Hembram has also found place in the Odisha team. Odisha team will play their first league match on 14th October against Manipur. Other scheduled matches are: with Tripura on 15th October, Mumbai on 18th October, Delhi on 20th October, Maharashtra on 21st October and Arunachal Pradesh on 23rd October. Bhubaneswar: Nearly 120 mm rainfall within 33 hours of time due to the depression caused by the after effects of cyclonic storm ‘Titli’, has once again put the entire workforce of Team BMC on high alert and action mode, to keep the citizens safe. As per the Indian Meteorology Department (IMD) local office, while the city received nearly 97 mm rainfall between 8.30 am on October 11 and 8.30 am today, from 8.30 am till 2.30 pm today, it received more than 20 mm rainfall, causing water-logging in many low-lying areas. The helpline numbers of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) received 37 complaints since last night and all were addressed. While through the Bhubaneswar Operations Centre (BOC) 26 complaints were received till evening hours, through BMC Storm Water Control Room 11 complaints were received.
