Lopar intensifies into depression, likely to turn into cyclonic storm

Bhubaneswar: The low pressure area formed over the Andaman Sea has intensified into a depression over south-east Bay of Bengal and is centered about 1,050 km south-east of Gopalpur, according to the Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) of the SOA (Deemed to be University) here on Saturday. Due to favourable condition such as Sea Surface Temperature (SST) of 28-30 degrees Celsius, wind shear of 5-15 knots and upper level anti-cyclonic flow, the depression is likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm, Dr. S.C.Sahu, Director of CEC, said. Initially the system may move in a west-northwesterly direction for a day or two and subsequently move in a west-southwesterly direction, he said. Dr. Sahu said under its influence, light rainfall was likely at many places in coastal and southern Odisha that starts from November 12 to November 15 this month. DGP Handing over 8 lakhs to Martyr's Family at State Police Headquarters in Cuttack

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP) Dr. R.P.Sharma on Monday handed over the insurance claim settlement cheque of Rs 8 lakhs to Manjari Majhi, sister of Martyred Sepoy Sanjaya Majhi of DVF in a simple function at R.K.Padhi Memorial Hall (IPS Mess) Cuttack. This is the claim settled by HDFC Bank. Handing over the cheque, DGP Dr. Sharma appreciated the effort of HDFC Bank for an early settlement of insurance claim. He also called upon the Bank officials to continue such kind of promptness in future days also. Sepoy Sanjaya Majhi achieved martyrdom while fighting in the line of duty on April 04, 2018. He sacrificed his life in a landmine explosion near Sakata village under Muniguda Police Station in Rayagada District. The incident happened during a combing operation in the locality. Mr. Debashis Senapati, Regional Head (Odisha & Andaman) HDFC along with other Senior Officers of HDFC Bank and Odisha Police were present in the programme.

Anti-Maoist operation launched by Odisha Police, 5 Maoists killed during exchange of fire

Bhubaneswar: Based on credible information about presence of armed CPI (Maoist) group, anti-Maoist operation was launched on Sunday evening in Poplur – Kurmanur forest (Bejangiwada Reserve Forest) area under Kalimela Police Station of Malkangiri district by the District and State Operations Wing by mobilising two units of Special Operations Group. During the operation, there was exchange of fire between the armed CPI (Maoist) cadres and the Security Forces in Poplur – Kurmanur forest (Bejangiwada RF) in the wee hours of Sunday. Five (05) hardcore CPI (Maoist) cadres (03 males and 02 female cadres) were killed in this operation. Two SLR rifles, 01 INSAS rifle, one .303 rifle, one grenade and other articles have been recovered from the spot. The identification of the cadres, who were killed in this encounter, is under process. MoHUA Secy visits Smart City project sites, BOC

Bhubaneswar: Secretary Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) Durga Shankar Mishra and Additional Secretary and Mission Director AMRUT Shiv Das Meena visited the various on-going projects across the city under Smart City Mission and also reviewed the works at the office of Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL). They also visited the Bhubaneswar Operations Centre (BOC), the command and control centre for the city. The Union Secretary of MoHUA also visited the housing project at Rangamatia and paid his respect to Lord Lingaraj, the presiding deity of Ekamra Kshetra, the ancient region which was later named as Bhubaneswar. The senior bureaucrat from the Centre reviewed the flagship missions of MoHUA, and visited the BOC developed under the Smart City Mission. 38 MoUs signed aimed at saving nearly Rs 40000 crore Capital Goods import

Bhubaneswar: Leading Capital Goods (CG) producers from across the globe inked 38 MoUs with leading Indian steel companies envisaging reduction in imports of CGs meant for the steel sector worth Rs 39,400 crore by promoting manufacturing of capital goods in the country. The MoUs were signed at a Conclave in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday which was organized by Ministry of Steel, Government of India in association with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and MECON. The National Steel Policy- 2017 envisages creation of 300 million tonnes (MT) of steel capacity in the country by 2030-31 as against existing 130 MT. The estimated import of plant and equipment, for reaching 300 MT capacity, will be around USD 25 billion. Further, for meeting the spares requirement, it is estimated that at 300 MT capacity level, India will have to spend about USD 500 million annually for import of proprietary and other spares.
