Bhubaneswar: The low pressure area formed over the Andaman Sea has intensified into a depression over south-east Bay of Bengal and is centered about 1,050 km south-east of Gopalpur, according to the Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) of the SOA (Deemed to be University) here on Saturday. Due to favourable condition such as Sea Surface Temperature (SST) of 28-30 degrees Celsius, wind shear of 5-15 knots and upper level anti-cyclonic flow, the depression is likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm, Dr. S.C.Sahu, Director of CEC, said. Initially the system may move in a west-northwesterly direction for a day or two and subsequently move in a west-southwesterly direction, he said. Bhubaneswar: Based on credible information about presence of armed CPI (Maoist) group, anti-Maoist operation was launched on Sunday evening in Poplur – Kurmanur forest (Bejangiwada Reserve Forest) area under Kalimela Police Station of Malkangiri district by the District and State Operations Wing by mobilising two units of Special Operations Group. During the operation, there was exchange of fire between the armed CPI (Maoist) cadres and the Security Forces in Poplur – Kurmanur forest (Bejangiwada RF) in the wee hours of Sunday. Five (05) hardcore CPI (Maoist) cadres (03 males and 02 female cadres) were killed in this operation. Bhubaneswar: As the city decorates itself with a new colour to welcome Goddess Durga, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken up several measures including the development of four immersion ponds (under construction), so that the festival will be safe and with minimal pollution. The sanitation agencies and sanitation workers of BMC have been asked to carry out extra cleaning work near Puja pandals to make them clean. Puja organisers were advised to use extra dustbins. The civic body has asked the Puja organisers to have restricted use of synthetic substance, colour and more use of organic things by so that there would be minimal pollution during immersion. Bhubaneswar, July 3: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing into the multi-thousand crore chit fund scam operated in the Odisha, has submitted charge sheet against three employees of the Zodiac Foundation, a ponzi firm, in the special CBI court here on June 30, sources in the CBI revealed today. Bhubaneswar, July 3: The special CBI court here, in its ruling, rejected the bail plea of former BJD MLA from Keonjhar Subarna Naik on Thursday evening following a hearing on the bail petition on June 27. Former BJD MLA Subarna Naik Naik was arrested by the CBI on November 4 last year on charges of criminal conspiracy in the multi-crore chit fund scam in the state. He was one of the directors of Nabadiganta Capital Services, a chit fund company which has been accused of duping thousands of investors in the state. The court rejected the bail plea of Naik after a preliminary chargesheet was filed against him and five others by the CBI. On the other hand Khurda SDJM court had also rejected the bail plea of Congress leader and businessman Dillip Mohanty, who was earlier arrested by the CBI for his alleged links with chit fund company Artha Tatwa (AT) Group. Bhubaneswar, Oct 20: The Odisha High Court on Monday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of former government chief whip and BJD’s Banki MLA Pravat Tripathy over his alleged complicity in the multi-thousand crore chit fund scam being inquired by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the state. Bhubaneswar, Sept 2: Hundreds of Data Entry Operators today staged demonstration in front of the residence of the Odisha’s revenue minister Bijayashree Routray here demanding permanent status in their job and increment in salary package. The agitators shouted anti-government slogans calling for immediate fulfilment of their demands. The data entry operators were appointed on contractual basis in 2006 at 306 Tehsil offices across the state. “Initially we were appointed for preparing land records but later we were engaged in for digitization of land records. Besides we have been attached to different services in various state government initiatives including e-Governance and e-District project.
