Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started its public campaign in Odia against plastic by placing hoardings at prime locations to make people aware. Two radio jingles are also aired through three FM stations to take the message to more people. Soon a tableau will also roll out to intensify the campaign and advertisements in film theatres on restricted use of plastic and Swachha Survekshyan 2019 will be screened, for more and more citizen participation. The campaign aimed at making the Capital City free from plastic/polythene speaks about bringing own tiffin boxes, bottles and bags to minimise the burden of plastic on the earth as the non-biodegradable substances have created a threat for human and animal lives and the fertility of the soil is going down. Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started de-weeding the historic Bindusagar Lake in the wake of the Bhubaneswar Art Trail-2018 (BAT), coinciding with the Odisha Hockey Men's World Cup as the 1.3 km trail of art related activities are likely to attract huge tourist footf all between November 18 and December 18. International, national and local artists are going to showcase their best works during the art-heritage-culture interface, called BAT. The Division-II of the Engineering Section of BMC has taken up the cleaning of the historic lake, which is built around 7-8th Century AD and is with an area of about 8.9 hectares or 21.9 acres. Bhubaneswar, June 26:  Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation   (BMC) on Sunday opened a ‘shelter for urban homeless (SUH)’-the third of its kind at Baramunda Bus Terminal here, thanks to its people-centric initiative. The latest SUH with strength to accommodate 12 persons (eight males and four females) was inaugurated by Tourism and Culture Minister Ashok Chandra Panda. Inaugurating the facility, the Minister said that poor people, who had been deserted by their family members and who lived on platforms or in places such as bus stands and railway stations will be provided shelter. Among others present were local MP Prasanna Patsani, MLA Bhubaneswar (North) Priyadarshi Mishra and MLA Bhubaneswar (Central) Bijay Kumar Mohanty, BMC Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena, Deputy Mayor K Shanti and councilors of BMC. Bhubaneswar, Nov 29: Fighting against the negligence shown by the local corporator in their locality, Tuighoot slum children here under ward number-10 of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation today addressed various problems they faced in their locality by pasting posters in wall magazine installed on a board. As many as 30 child club members put their problems like need for safe drinking water, electricity, drainage system, playground, wells and others basic needs in their locality. Through their posters, they have urged the BMC Mayor to look into their matter with immediate effect. “BMC should look to the basic needs of the slum children which will greatly influence the children's development,” said a member of the child media club Tuighoot. The programme was organized by city based voluntary organization named Center for Child and Women Development with the help of National foundation for India involving the members of child media club Tuighoot.

It is worth mentioning here that under the guidance of GS Prasad, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of RSP and a passionate music lover, ‘Ninaad’ was launched about three years ago in order to create a symphony in steel. The idea behind the initiative was to hone and bring to the limelight the musical talents from among the employees as well as their family members. Rourkela: Hrushikesh Mohapatra, General Secretary, Rajiv Gandhi Forum (RGF) said that the slow pace of development work by the State government is a hindrance to the development of Rourkela. Briefing media persons, here today, Mohapatra stated that in the case of PLO cards, as many as 30,000 cards should have been given to the actual beneficiaries, but till now, 9000 cards have been given by the Rourkela Municipality. He added that the construction of a second Bridge on river Brahmani and providing houses to the poor under the Rajiv Awas Yojana are also delayed.
