Rourkela, May 23: The medical expertise and timely intervention of the doctors and staff of Ispat General Hospital (IGH) of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) have once again saved the life of an infant who reached the hospital on May 20 this year, in a critical condition. An 8-month old baby boy Umesh Chhatar from Bargarh aspirated a piece of vegetable accidentally on May 20 morning which got struck in his lower airway. He was rushed to the Bargarh Hospital in a critical condition. He was then referred by the Bargarh hospital to VSS Medical College, Burla who in turn referred the patient to IGH, Rourkela. At the time of admission to IGH, the infant’s condition had worsened. He was in shock, suffered from severe breathlessness and was diagnosed with alarmingly low oxygen saturation. CEO, RSP inaugurating Sanitary Napkin Centre Rourkela, Apr 20: Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, has been striving for promoting women empowerment in domains such as health, livelihood, education etc. Yet another chapter in this regard has been written with the establishment of a low cost sanitary napkins manufacturing centre at Deepika Mahila Jagruti Sansthan, Sector-2, Rourkela. Rourkela, Aug 20: Sadbhavana Diwas was observed at Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) here today.   On this occasion, a pledge was taken in Odia, Hindi and English by Plant employees that they will work for the emotional oneness and harmony of all the people of India regardless of caste, creed, region, religion or language. They further pledged that they shall resolve all differences among themselves through dialogue and constitutional means without resorting to violence. Rourkela, Aug 14: Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of the Maharatna Company SAIL, has bagged a host of National level awards. Three employees of the Steel plant have been selected to receive the prestigious Prime Minister’s Shram Awards. Upendra Maharana, SOST, Tonnage Oxygen Plant-II has bagged the award in Shram Vir Category. He will be receiving a cash award of Rs. 60,000 and a ‘Sanad’. Manoj Kumar Pradhan, Sr. Technician, ERWPP has bagged the Shram Shree award while Mrs Rajalaxmi Acharya, Senior Instructor, HRD Centre has got the Shram Devi award. Bhubaneswar: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notice to Chief Secretary (CS) over the inaction of the State administration in ensuring basic human rights and not following the applicable laws so far while executing Reba-Kapali Sanskar Yojana (RKSY) in Bhadrak district and sought the report within four weeks. The NHRC passed this order while acting on a petition filed by two freedom fighters namely Bhadrak District Freedom Fighters’ Association president Ramahari Goswami and secretary Shyam Sunder Behera. They have raised the basic human rights issue involved in the RKSY project since it has been executed without following the provisions of Land Acquisition Act and the Orissa Rehabilitation and Resettlement Policy. Rourkela: As a part of the power augmentation package of the ongoing modernization and expansion programme of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), the newly constructed 132/33 KV Main Step-Down Sub-Station-5 (MSDS-V) was inaugurated by S N Roy, ED (Works) on Tuesday here. MSDS-V comprises a 132 KV Gas Insulated Sub-station (GIS), four 63 MVA 132/33 KV Transformer, two 33 KV Indoor Switchboard and several other state-of-the-art facilities. The 132 KV GIS is not only the first of its kind in RSP but also in the State of Odisha. Set up by M/s Siemens Limited this sub-station is fed from CPP-II as well as from MSDS-II (Grid Power) through new 132 KV double circuit transmission lines. With MSDS-V coming to stream an alternative path for evacuation of power from CPP-II is now available at 132 KV level. Rourkela: In protest against the hike in power tariff, activists of the CPI (M) and Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) today gheraoed the WESCO office. Notably, Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) approved the 10 paise/unit hike, which will be effective from April 1. The CPI (M) termed the power tariff hike as gift from the state government on the occasion of Utkal Diwas. Dubbing the hike as anti-people, the CPI (M) alleged that a large number of people in rural areas and urban areas will suffer a lot. They demanded immediate roll-out of the hike as approved by OERC. Rourkela:  Chhend policemen have busted a sex racket here today. Four accused in the case have been arrested and forwarded to the Court. Acting on a tip off, Chhend policemen conducted raid in the house of Mukesh Gupta (29), the main accused, in the wee hours yesterday. Mukesh Gupta, a resident of Phase-II Qr.No.152 in Kalinga Vihar area in Chhend Colony who ran a travel agency, allegedly also ran a sex racket in his residence.  Police arrested Gupta and three others including a woman. The arrested men have been identified as Ambit Panda (44) and Amit Prasad (30), resident of LCR-134 and LCR-139 of Chhend area respectively. Police arrested all the four accused and have seized a four-wheeler from them in the case.
