Mahanga women harassed since 2009; still to get justice

Victim Anjali Pradhan Bhubaneswar: In yet another case of women harassment in the state, a woman in the Mahanga area of Cuttack district, just managed to escape from the clutches of hooligans who tried to set her on fire. Like the case of the Tikiri lady teacher, the woman had also approached several police officials of her district to help her out but gone unheeded. She made rounds of the temples of justice, but all her efforts went in vain. The hooligans of the woman’s village have been threatening her of life if she returns home again. According to reports, the victim, Anjali Pradhan is a single woman of Govindpur under the Mahanga police limits in Cuttack district. Sexagenarian in capital in search of his missing son

Bhubaneswar: A Sexagenarian Gopinath Pradhan of Belapada village under Kanas police limit in Puri district while moving on Lower PMG here met the Jagdev- “the Conqueror” bureau and pleaded me for help after he was refused by an auto-rickshaw to locate an address to him. With a sorrowful heart Pradhan approached me with an old newspaper to express his disheartened statement. When asked about the matter, he said to locate an address of his elder son Sunil Pradhan (29) who had gone missing since 2010 that had appeared in an Odia daily. He showed me the paper where a youth looks like his son appeared in the photo with some address written in it. Noting all of his conversation which stated that Pradhan had asked the same question to many auto-drivers, but he could not get any satisfied answer from them. Potters hang on despite hardships

Rourkela: Pottery has become a way of life for the 15 families of Koilagate area of Bandhamunda block near the Steel City since last 18 years. Hailing from Gaya of Bihar, these families spend most of their time in making pottery ware like small earthen-pots, diyas , kumpis , jhuna-dana , and other items from clay. “We have no time to rest for three months in October, November and December every year as there is a great demand for pottery for Dussehra and Diwali,” said Mukesh Prajapati, a potter. Giving details on the pottery work, Prajapati says, “We collect clay from Tilak Nagar area under Rourkela Municipality for which we pay Rs. 1500 for each load of clay”.
