Steel City braces up for AIEEE Exam on April 7
Rourkela: The district administration has chalked out a detailed plan for
smooth conduct of All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE- JEE Main)-2013
to be held on April 7 and to avoid predictable inconvenience to candidates appearing
for the national-level entrance test for admission into central technical
institutions.
Rourkela is
the only offline examination centre for AIEEE (JEE Main) while Bhubaneswar is
the online centre for JEE (Main) in the state. As many as 20,164 students are
expected to come to the steel city for the test while 33 examination centres
are selected to cover such a huge number students to appear for the
examination.
The district
administration has made necessary arrangements to tackle issues like accommodation
for students and their guardians, drinking water facilities, route chart, communication
facilities through buses, autos and safety of students.
Around
40,000 aspirants along with their parents and guardians are expected to turn up
in the city. Considering shortage of hotel rooms and hygienic food for them,
several voluntary organizations will provide dormitory accommodation with food
at nominal charges or free of cost.
A decision
to this effect was taken in a meeting between various voluntary organizations,
associations and Rourkela Municipality convened by Rourkela ADM Rabindranath
Mishra last evening at ADM office.
“We had appealed
earlier to all concerned to ensure a comfortable stay for students and their
guardians during the examination here. Till now, 45 shelter homes have been arranged
for around 5575 people in different locations in and around Rourkela,” said
Mishra.
The meeting
decided that the volunteers will run a control room/help desk at the Rourkela
railway station from where students will be ushered to shelter homes for free
accommodations on April 6 and 7 who don’t have confirmed booking in any hotels.
Marwadi Youth Mancha, a social organization, has decided to arrange breakfast
at Rs. 5 and meal at Rs. 10 on both days near railway station. A route chart
has been made by the district administration. It will be displayed at bus stand
and railway station to help aspirants find their way to the examination
centres. As many as 100 buses including 40 school buses and 60 private buses
have been pressed into service on exam days. Rs. 10 has been fixed as fare for
all locations in Rourkela and even to Bisra, Bandhamunda, Kuarmunda, Vedvyas,
Biramitrapur.
All centres
will be supplied with cold water tanks by the Rourkela Municipality to erase
thirst for aspirants. Many small and medium hotels are also making temporary
dormitory arrangements for the students on these two days. Bus and auto
operators have been asked not to take advantage of the rush and refrain from
levying extra charges. A fare chart to different locations has been supplied to
bus and auto operators by the district administration. If neglected, the
concerned auto and bus driver will be booked/ punished under law.
Members of
Rajasthan Parishad, Haryana Nagarika Sangha, Lions’ Clubs, Rotary Club and many
other outfits are keen to provide accommodation, food and drinking water
facilities for the examinees. Besides, notice has been sent to the
representatives of Private Bus Owners Association and Auto Owners Associations
to cordially help the students and guardians positively in these days.
East Coast
Railways (ECoR) has decided to introduce three special trains to Rourkela from
Puri and Bhubaneswar on April 6 to avoid a possible rush in view of the ensuing
AIEEE-JEE Main examination in the Steel City on April 7. The Puri-Rourkela-Puri
special train will leave Puri at 5.25 am on April 6 and reach Rourkela at 3.30
pm, the same day. Another pair of special train, Bhubaneswar-Rourkela via Chakradharpur,
will leave Bhubaneswar at 9.15 am on April 6 and reach Chakradharpur at 9 in
the evening.
