Awareness is needed to end violence against women and girls: Dr Sharma
Bhubaneswar: In order to sensitize auto drivers and public towards protecting girl
child and stopping women violence, the city-based voluntary organization named
centre for child and women development (CCWD), action aid group, Commissionerate
Police, Beti Zindabad and Maa Sikhar Chandi auto owners association jointly
organised an awareness drive ‘sensitize auto-drivers to eliminate violence
against women and girls’ at Saileshree Vihar here on Sunday.
Heading the meeting, Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma, twin city Commissioner of Police focused on massive scale awareness which is highly essential to end the violence against women and girls.
According to survey, nearly 60 per cent women violence occurs in domestic work, 55 per cent in unorganised sector and 25 per cent in working place. Similarly around 6 out of 10 girls abused every day in the cities and women’s are molested which is a serious issue. The illusion towards girls is not only limited within illiterate communities of rural India but blindly affected to young educated of urban people.
Dr Sharma called upon the youth mass to respect the women.
He
further said “To minimize women atrocity in the city we have decided to produce
short films on women and screen them in theatres”, adding, “We have started the
process. The films would be of 30-second duration each,” he added.
Dr Sharma also released an awareness poster and flagged up an auto rally in which more than 100 autos took part in the campaign holding the poster with massage ‘City people for stopping violence against girls & women’.
Other officials like Dr Santosh Bala, Additional Commissioner of Police, Nitinjeet Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar, Debabrata Patro, Regional Programme Manager, Action Aid, Sadashiv Swain, Secretary CCWD and auto association members also participated in this programme.
