Panic gripped as lady doctor jumps to death from 8th floor of apartment
Bhubaneswar, Sept 6: Panic struck
residents of the Banalata Apartment located in Saheed Nagar area in Odisha
capital when a 45-year-old lady doctor committed suicide by jumping from the 8th
floor of the apartment this afternoon.

Though the incident took place
around 1.30 pm, the deceased body was reportedly recovered an hour later by the
police who were informed by the apartment people.
The deceased, identified as
Swetapadma Mishra, a gynecologist working at Jagannath Hospital located under
Saheed Nagar police limits, was then rushed to Apollo hospital in the city
where she was declared brought dead. Her body was then shifted to Capital hospital
here for the post-mortem.
Police sources said though the
actual death of Swetapadma, wife of Arijit Mohapatra, a pediatrics at the same
hospital, is yet to be ascertained, but the deceased parents have lodged a complaint
at the local police station bringing allegation of murder against their in-laws.
Meanwhile the forensic team and
Saheed Nagar police personnel are at the apartment to gather facts behind the
strange death and are interrogating the in-laws of the deceased.
Police said the deceased who had
been staying at the third floor of the apartment committed suicide by jumping
from the eighth floor of the building. They have recovered footwear and spectacles of the deceased lying on the terrace of the building where she jumped to death.
“Meanwhile we have registered an
unnatural death (U/D) case into the incident. Investigation is on to find out the actual
reason behind the woman’s death,” said the investigating officer of the case.
A neighbour of the deceased said
while he and his family members were in their flat, they heard a loud sound and
when they come out their house to see the woman lying on the floor with
blood oozing out from her body parts.
Keeping their views behind the death, deceased's in-laws said she might have taken this extreme step as she was going through a mental illness.
