Rath Yatra: Eight lakh devotees thronged Puri to participate holy event

Bhubaneswar/Puri, July 6: Over eight lakh devotees participated in today’s Rath Yatra of the lord Jagannath and his elder brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra. Grand festival of chariots began with traditional fervor this morning. Devotees waiting to have darshan of Trinity The holy Trinity were on a nine day sojourn to their aunts house Shree Gundicha temple riding three huge chariots (Rathas) along the three kilometers long Badadanda. Though all the nitees were performed as per the time fixed by the temple administration, there was inordinate delay in pulling of the chariots. While the pulling time was fixed for 3.30 pm it actually began by 4.35. As a result no chariots were able to reach its destination Gundicha temple. Rourkela, June 27:  As a part of the Swachh Bharat Mission of Government of India, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has been observing Swachhta Pakhwada from June 16. The event will continue till June 30. A pledge taking ceremony was held at the CEO Conference hall on June 20 to mark the occasion. Ashwini Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of RSP chaired the session and also administered the pledge. Pledge taking ceremonies as well as cleaning campaigns were also held in different units in which many senior officers and employees took part. Third shelter for urban homeless opens in capital city

Bhubaneswar, June 26:  Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation   (BMC) on Sunday opened a ‘shelter for urban homeless (SUH)’-the third of its kind at Baramunda Bus Terminal here, thanks to its people-centric initiative. The latest SUH with strength to accommodate 12 persons (eight males and four females) was inaugurated by Tourism and Culture Minister Ashok Chandra Panda. Inaugurating the facility, the Minister said that poor people, who had been deserted by their family members and who lived on platforms or in places such as bus stands and railway stations will be provided shelter. Among others present were local MP Prasanna Patsani, MLA Bhubaneswar (North) Priyadarshi Mishra and MLA Bhubaneswar (Central) Bijay Kumar Mohanty, BMC Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena, Deputy Mayor K Shanti and councilors of BMC. Torture case: Lopamudra Mishra lands second time at Badagada police station

Bhubaneswar, June 26:  Lopamudra Mishra, who had alleged of being physically and mentally tortured by her industrialist father-in-law Trailokya Mishra and husband Sabyasachi, knocked at the door of Badagada police station for second time in Odisha’s capital city. On Sunday, Lopamudra met Inspector in charge (IIC) of Badagada police station Suvendu Sinha and lodged a fresh complaint against her husband and in-laws.    Lopamudra alleged in her complaint that she has been receiving threats to her life on her Facebook and WhatsApp accounts. As per the report, on her Facebook the associates of Trailokya Mishra use to upload write-ups thereby affecting her self-respect. The IIC, on the other hand, said, “We have already asked the complainant to submit the documents supporting her allegations. Sex racket busted from restaurant: Owner among 4 arrested

Bhubaneswar, June 22: Acting on a tip off, the Commissionerate Police today busted a sex racket running inside a restaurant located in Bomikhal area under Laxmisagar police limits. Four persons including owner of the restaurant were nabbed by the police, while they were indulged in flesh trade. The arrested persons were identified as owner of the restaurant Jyotiranjan Nayak hails from Bhandaripokhari area, customer Sanjay Kumar Khantua of Govindapur, Ramchandra Mallick of Niyalli and Srikanta Singh of Kaipadar. The accused persons will be forwarded to a local court here tomorrow following a medical examination. Police have rescued a lady forced into this trade. Seashore Chit Fund Scam: company chief Prashant Dash's wife arrested

Bhubaneswar, June 7: Acting on a warrant case issued by the Rourkela SDJM court, the commissionerate police today arrested Jyotirani Sarangi, wife of Seashore group Chief Prashant Dash, for her alleged role in duping investors of crores of rupees in Rourkela. Acting on a tip off, Laxmisagar police this evening nabbed Ms Jyotirani from her room located in Majestic Apartment of Laxmisagar area following a raid.  Police sources said, she had duped investors crores of rupees by collecting small deposits promising them to provide high returns on the sum. Though the local police here refused to divulge details about the case, sources said the company had opened a branch at Civil Township in Rourkela and had cheated investors operated by the accused. She had played one of the directors in the branch.
