‘Literature festival encourage youth to pursue literature’

Bhubaneswar, June 11: Appreciating the initiatives of Kalinga Literary Festival (KLF), eminent poet, critic and essayist Kedarnath Singh today  said that the greatest contribution of any literary festivals that are organized anywhere is to encourage the youth to pursue literature.

The second day of KLF witnessed discussions, debates and disagreements on issues of love, dance, exclusion and nationalism. The sessions built on the first day’s focus on peace, harmony, lived experience and feminism in literature.

Kalinga Literary Youth award was conferred upon thirty promising writers of Odisha. These awardees, working to promote Odia language, poetry and literature, were chosen from 30 different districts of Odisha.

Various sessions on Mystic Kalinga, Akbar, Indian cinema, short love stories, resurgence of nationalism, exclusion, poetry and popular lyrics was also staged.

The event was graced by Tarun Vijay, Ashok Maheswari, Bijayananda Singh, Zameer Uddin Shah, Vineet Kumar, Shazi Zaman, KLF Director Kamala Kanta Dash, Sagar Sarhadi, Soumendra Padhi, Monedeepa Sahoo, Baqir Shameem, Santanu Ganguly, Ravish Kumar, Vineet Kumar, Grindranath Jha, Aruna Mohanty, Subas Pani, Meera Das, Ileana Citaristi and Kedar Mishra.

Inaugurated the fourth edition of KLF, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “Art acts as a medium to explain literature to common people. KLF should be appreciated for creating a fusion of art and literature.”

The two-day festival at Mayfair received huge appreciation by followers on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook. Popular Twitter celebrities like Anand Neel kantan, Sudarsan Pattnaik, Suhasini Haider, Ravi Mantha, Tarun Vijay shared widely about thought provoking and entertaining sessions at KLF. The KLF also received huge appreciation from Team Bahubali and its renowned director SS Rajamouli.

Prithvi-II test fired successfully

Rourkela: India today successfully test-fired its indigenously developed nuclear capable Prithvi-II missile with a strike range of 350 km from a test range at Chandipur near Balasore. The surface-to-surface missile was test fired from a mobile launcher in salvo mode from launch complex-3 of Integrated Test Range at about 9:21 AM, defence sources said. The launch of the sophisticated missile, conducted as part of operational exercise by the Strategic Force Command (SFC) of the defence services, was successful, they said. “The missile was randomly chosen from the production stock and the total launch activities were carried out by the specially formed SFC and monitored by the scientists of Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) as part of practice drill,” sources said. Developmental trial of Astra missile conducted

Rourkela: India today conducted developmental trial of its indigenously developed beyond visual range (BVR) air-to-air missile ‘Astra’ from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, about 15 km from Balasore. The sophisticated missile was test-fired from a launcher in launch pad-2 of the ITR at about 01.25 PM targeting a flying object being supported by a pilotless target air-craft ‘Lakshya’, defence sources said. The single stage, solid fuelled ‘Astra’ missile is more advanced in its category than the contemporary BVR missiles and is capable of engaging and destroying highly manoeuvrable supersonic aerial targets. The 3.8-metre long missile, having a diameter of 178 mm with an overall launch weight of 160 kg, can carry a warhead containing conventional explosives weighing 15 kg.
