Odisha chit fund scam: High Court rejects BJD’s Banki MLA Pravat Tripathy’s bail plea

Bhubaneswar, Oct 20: The Odisha High Court on Monday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of former government chief whip and BJD’s Banki MLA Pravat Tripathy over his alleged complicity in the multi-thousand crore chit fund scam being inquired by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the state. The Court had kept its verdict reserved after completing hearing on the anticipatory bail plea of Tripathy on October 16. Man held for duping youth impersonating himself as CRPF officer

Bhubaneswar, Sept 29: Commissionerate Police today arrested a 30-year-old man for duping a Sundarpada resident of Rs 1.09 lakh impersonating himself as a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer. Accused Balaram Das The victim has been identified as Ashis Patra (25). According to Nayapalli police, Balaram Das, the accused hails from Bhadrak district, impersonating him as an inspector of CRPF had taken Rs 1.09 lakhs from Patra promising him to provide home appliances like fridge, television, washing machine and others from a defence canteen in Vishakhapatnam at 50 per cent less than the actual rate of these appliances. The accused had taken the amount from Patra in August 22. But later the accused had failed to return the received amount of the victim after his repeated calls. Data Entry Operators stage demo demanding basic amenities in their jobs

Bhubaneswar, Sept 2: Hundreds of Data Entry Operators today staged demonstration in front of the residence of the Odisha’s revenue minister Bijayashree Routray here demanding permanent status in their job and increment in salary package. The agitators shouted anti-government slogans calling for immediate fulfilment of their demands. The data entry operators were appointed on contractual basis in 2006 at 306 Tehsil offices across the state. “Initially we were appointed for preparing land records but later we were engaged in for digitization of land records. Besides we have been attached to different services in various state government initiatives including e-Governance and e-District project. Bhubaneswar, Sept 2: A team of Tokyo based Japanese’s Company delegates headed by Takeaki Yamamoto, Chairman Japan Communication today visited Odisha Khadi and Village Industries Board and discussed with Board’s President Tejeswar Parida on prospects of village industries in Odisha in Japan Model cottage industries. Board’s President Parida urged the Japanese delegates to extend cooperation for entrepreneurship and infrastructure development and establishment of train centres. Bhubaneswar, Aug 14: Commissionerate Police today arrested a bike lifter from Saheed Nagar area here and recovered nine motorcycles looted by him from different locations in the city. Three employees of the Steel plant have been selected to receive the prestigious Prime Minister’s Shram Awards. Upendra Maharana, SOST, Tonnage Oxygen Plant-II has bagged the award in Shram Vir Category. He will be receiving a cash award of Rs. 60,000 and a ‘Sanad’. In a toughly contested final held at Ispat Stadium here yesterday, Jhirpani team from Bisra block defeated the team from Sunmarin village of Lathikata block 3-1 to win the tournament. Winners receiving trophy and certificates from guests Mrs Manjari Prasad, president of Deepika Mahila Sanghati (DMS) graced the concluding function as the Chief Guest. Congratulating the winners and the runners-up team Mrs Prasad, along with Mrs Sharmistha Das, Mrs Jyotsna Acharya and Mrs Sabiata Kumar, all vice presidents of DMS as well as S Pradhan, GM (F&A) and PK Pradhan, GM (TA& CSR) awarded the trophies and certificates to them. Odisha chit fund scam: CBI raids Green India offices, homes of its officials

Bhubaneswar, Aug 7: The CBI team today conducted raids on different offices of Green India Finance (GIF), a chit fund company. Nine teams of CBI conducted simultaneous raids at several places in Bhubaneswar and Berhampur branch offices of GIF and the residences of company directors Pradeep Singh at Ayodhya Nagar and Suneel Panda at Ashok Nagar in Berhampur city, sources said. The company had allegedly duped several gullible investors of crores of rupees through fixed deposit, recurring deposit (RD), in providing house and land loans and different products under different schemes created by it, sources added. Odisha Government to establish Ultra-modern Filigree Hub in Cuttack

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government has planned to establish an ultra-modern filigree hub in Cuttack under the scheme Assistance to States for Development of Export Infrastructure and Allied Activities (ASIDE). For this project, the state government has directed the district administration of Cuttack to provide a suitable land for this purpose after a letter served to the latter by the Textiles and Handlooms department recently. After getting the required land from the district administration, the infrastructural development and construction work of the filigree will be expedited, said Textiles and Handlooms Minister Snehangini Chhuria in the State Assembly here today.
