Couple’s doctor murder case: commissionerate police arrested three accused

Bhubaneswar, Dec 19: After more than a month of thorough investigation, the commissionerate police on Saturday cracked the sensational murder case of a doctor couple in Saileshree Vihar under Chandrasekharpur police limits by arresting three accused persons involved in the brutal crime. The police have seized four mobile phones, six golden bangles, Rs 2100 and a chappad from the accused possession. The accused were identified as Kishore Chandra Behera (44) alias Timpa of Nehrunagar in Ganjam district, Md Kamal Khan alias Muna (22)and his wife Phulsari Behera alias Nini(36), both of Aul in Kendrapara district. The mastermind Tikina Behera (30) and Jaban Naik, both hails from Sujeli in Kandhamal district are still at large. RSP bagged first prize in National Energy Conservation Award-2015

Rourkela, Dec 14: Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of the Maharatna Company-SAIL has bagged the first prize in “ National Energy Conservation Award 2015 ” in Integrated Steel Plant sector for the fiscal 2014-15. The award was presented on the National Energy Conservation Day by the Ministry of Power, Government of India, in a glittering function held at Vigyan Bhawan of New Delhi on December 14. The function was presided over by Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, Coal and Non Renewable energy. On behalf of RSP, the award was received by P Sahoo, GM (Electrical) and P K Baisakhiya, DGM (EMD). It is worth mentioning here that in its endeavour to conserve energy, RSP has taken a number of initiatives recently. As a result, the overall specific energy consumption in the plant has come down from 6.97 Giga Calorie per tonne of crude steel in 2009-10 to 6.57 Giga Calorie per tonne of crude steel in 2014-15. Rourkela, Dec 5: S S Mohanty, Director (Technical) SAIL arrived on a two day visit to Rourkela Steel Plant RSP today. On his today’s visit to plant, he held a discussion with M K Das, ED (Projects), S K Acharya, ED (Projects), Ashwini Kumar, ED (Works) at CEO’s office regarding the production, productivity, future plans and other important aspects of functioning at RSP. Thereafter, accompanied with SK Acharya and Ashwini Kumar, Mohanty visited Blast Furnace-V. He also held a meeting with the senior officers of the Plant. Later, he visited the Slab yard, Finishing Line of New plate Mill and the site of the New Hot Strip Mill. In the afternoon, Mohanty interacted with the officers of Finance and Marketing at CEO’s Conference Hall. Later in the evening, Mohanty chaired a communication exercise on ‘Turnaround Strategy of SAIL’ at Gopabandhu Auditorium that was attended by about 500 employees from various departments of the Plant.

Inauguration of number of sub-stations at RSP

Rourkela, Nov 30: In order to provide power supply for the erection, commissioning and constant uninterrupted operation of the massive expansion projects of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a number of electrical installations have been set up. The timely power supply from the three Load Block Sub-Stations namely LBSS-IV, LBSS-V and LBSS-VI to the New Coke Ovens battery– 6 Complex, New Blast Furnace– V, Ore Bedding and Blending Plant Phase-III and the New Sinter Complex, enabled the commissioning, stabilization and operations of these Units. Recently all the erection jobs and automation commissioning including Auto Bus Transfer and complete communication of all feeders to centralized Power Distribution SCADA were completed by the collective efforts of the Projects and Power Distribution departments of RSP. Bhubaneswar, Nov 29: Fighting against the negligence shown by the local corporator in their locality, Tuighoot slum children here under ward number-10 of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation today addressed various problems they faced in their locality by pasting posters in wall magazine installed on a board. As many as 30 child club members put their problems like need for safe drinking water, electricity, drainage system, playground, wells and others basic needs in their locality. Through their posters, they have urged the BMC Mayor to look into their matter with immediate effect. “BMC should look to the basic needs of the slum children which will greatly influence the children's development,” said a member of the child media club Tuighoot. The programme was organized by city based voluntary organization named Center for Child and Women Development with the help of National foundation for India involving the members of child media club Tuighoot.

Health check-up of 141 contract labour of RSP organized

Rourkela, Nov 28: A Health check-up programme was organized for the contract labour working in Township area of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) at the Town Engineering Conference Hall, recently.    141 contract labourers were covered in the programme where they were examined for different parameters such as height, weight, Body Mass Index (BMI), vision test, blood pressure, random blood sugar, blood grouping, Hepatitis-B and general check up like hearing and pulse rate etc. The identified patients were also provided medicines free of cost. The programme was jointly organized by Personnel-Contract Labour Cell with the help of Ispat General Hospital (IGH), ESI Model Hospital & ESIC Dispensary. Doctors and technicians from ESI Corporation & IGH conducted the tests. It is noteworthy that the health check up programme for contract labour started in April 2013. Rourkela, Nov 23: The Annual Science Exhibition of Ispat Vidyamandir in Sector-19 was held in the institution campus here on Monday. Prof. SS Pattnaik, Vice-Chancellor of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The students of the institution presented 39 exhibits on various topics.  All the exhibits were highly appreciated by the guests. Subrat Kumar Sahoo, Retired Senior Reader in Physics and Mrs Supriti Das, Assistant Manager, Education, Ispat English Medium School of Sector-20 judged the exhibits. Later prizes were given to the winners.  The head of the institution, Mrs Meena Satpathy, presided over the function and delivered the introductory speech. Panic gripped as lady doctor jumps to death from 8th floor of apartment

Bhubaneswar, Sept 6: Panic struck residents of the Banalata Apartment located in Saheed Nagar area in Odisha capital when a 45-year-old lady doctor committed suicide by jumping from the 8th floor of the apartment this afternoon. Woman fought bravely till last minute to nab chain snatchers

Bhubaneswar, Sept 5: Showing her bravery in fighting two looteras, a 35-year-old woman today managed to catch the miscreants, who had planned to snatch her gold chain while she was entering to her residence in Rasulgarh area in Odisha capital with her scooty, getting help of local people. The miscreants identified as Bijay Kumar Sahu and Harihar Das, both hail from Haladipadia under Laxmisagar police limits were later handed over to the Mancheswar police personnel by the locals. Odisha chit fund scam: Charge sheet filed against three employees of Zodiac Foundation by CBI

Bhubaneswar, July 3: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing into the multi-thousand crore chit fund scam operated in the Odisha, has submitted charge sheet against three employees of the Zodiac Foundation, a ponzi firm, in the special CBI court here on June 30, sources in the CBI revealed today. The CBI had arrested Dandapani Sethi from Phulbani for his alleged involvement in the chit fund scam on May 8. Bhubaneswar, July 3: The special CBI court here, in its ruling, rejected the bail plea of former BJD MLA from Keonjhar Subarna Naik on Thursday evening following a hearing on the bail petition on June 27. Former BJD MLA Subarna Naik Naik was arrested by the CBI on November 4 last year on charges of criminal conspiracy in the multi-crore chit fund scam in the state. He was one of the directors of Nabadiganta Capital Services, a chit fund company which has been accused of duping thousands of investors in the state. The court rejected the bail plea of Naik after a preliminary chargesheet was filed against him and five others by the CBI. On the other hand Khurda SDJM court had also rejected the bail plea of Congress leader and businessman Dillip Mohanty, who was earlier arrested by the CBI for his alleged links with chit fund company Artha Tatwa (AT) Group. Infant gets new lease of life after successful bronchoscopy by doctors of IGH

Rourkela, May 23: The medical expertise and timely intervention of the doctors and staff of Ispat General Hospital (IGH) of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) have once again saved the life of an infant who reached the hospital on May 20 this year, in a critical condition. An 8-month old baby boy Umesh Chhatar from Bargarh aspirated a piece of vegetable accidentally on May 20 morning which got struck in his lower airway. He was rushed to the Bargarh Hospital in a critical condition. He was then referred by the Bargarh hospital to VSS Medical College, Burla who in turn referred the patient to IGH, Rourkela. At the time of admission to IGH, the infant’s condition had worsened. He was in shock, suffered from severe breathlessness and was diagnosed with alarmingly low oxygen saturation.
