Bhubaneswar: The State units of various unions here held a huge rally and demonstration on Wednesday acting on the call of the central trade unions (CTU),  protesting the Group of Ministers’ (GoM) appeal for taking more time to discuss and settle of 10-point charter of demands of all central trade unions in the country. Protestors of BMS, INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC and AICCTU holding party flags and banners participated in the rally in huge number. They also submitted memorandum to the Governor SC Jamir regarding the issue. Bhubaneswar: Dissatisfied over the police investigation into the murder of M Pharma student Manmohan Pradhan, who was killed by a group of goons during a brawl near Chintamanishwar temple on August 19 last month, the parents of the deceased along with the State unit of All India Democratic Youth Organisation and Student-Youth Action Committee (SYAC) of Delanga of Puri district, on Tuesday took out a protest rally and demanded immediate shifting of the case to CBI and Rs 50 lakh compensation to the deceased student’s family members. Twin city Commissioner Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma Bhubaneswar: Contrary to the claim of the son and husband of the murdered Bachan Sudha Pattanayak that more than one person was involved in killing her, Twin city Commissioner of Police Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma on Tuesday clarified that the arrested security guard Dipti Ranjan Patnaik was the only accused in committing the offence. Basing on the psychoanalysis report which was conducted on the accused last week to know whether more than one person was involved in the crime, the Commissioner said “The forensic psychoanalysis assessment report revealed that Dipti was the only offender in the crime. No accomplice of him is involved in killing Bachan Sudha Pattanayak.” Notably, the report was submitted to the Commissioner late on Monday night by expert Dr Asha Srivastav, a clinical psychologist of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in New Delhi who conducted the analysis on Dipti to examine the mental status of the accu...

Bhubaneswar: A Sexagenarian Gopinath Pradhan of Belapada village under Kanas police limit in Puri district while moving on Lower PMG here met the Jagdev- “the Conqueror” bureau and pleaded me for help after he was refused by an auto-rickshaw to locate an address to him. With a sorrowful heart Pradhan approached me with an old newspaper to express his disheartened statement. When asked about the matter, he said to locate an address of his elder son Sunil Pradhan (29) who had gone missing since 2010 that had appeared in an Odia daily. He showed me the paper where a youth looks like his son appeared in the photo with some address written in it. Dipti Ranjan Patnaik Bhubaneswar: After taking security guard Dipti Ranjan Patnaik on five-day police remand from Jharpada Jail to conduct various test on him following interrogations about the heinous crime in connection with the broad day-light murder of city-based businessman’s wife Bachansudha Pattanayak on September 11 in the city, the Commissionerate Police conducted psychoanalysis test on him on Thursday. The test was conducted by an expert Dr Asha Shrivastav, a clinical psychologist of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in New Delhi and is also working for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), to examine the mental status of the accused. During the marathon interrogation held at the Commissionerate Police headquarters here, the security guard was asked on crime related questions in order to find possible involvement of more persons in the related crime. Bhubaneswar: The rising incidents of crime figures have deteriorated law and order control in the twin cities Bhubaneswar-Cuttack because of acute shortage of skilled sub-inspectors (SIs), who investigate series of cases in police stations. Nearly 200 more posts of SIs needs to be filled up to carry out many tasks like investigation, crime prevention, day and night patrolling, Traffic control, documentation and many more in the twin city, informed a senior officer, requesting anonymity. In addition to these, SIs are also engaged in VIP duty, road blocking, passport verification cells, Mahila and Sishu desks and senior citizen security cells. He said though there are crunch of staff in his police station, examining a case followed by investigation is a hell of task for him that results to pending of many cases.
