Rourkela: Sudhanshu Sekhar Nanda (51), who was Deputy Commissioner, Commercial Tax in Rourkela, died of dengue in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. Nanda, who hails from Bhubaneswar, was suffering from illness since last week, when he was at Rourkela. “He went to Bhubaneswar for treatment and got admitted to a private hospital four days ago”, said Health Officer, Rourkela Municipality, Dr. S K Parida. He was posted in Rourkela and was living alone in Uditnagar area, added Dr. Parida. He also informed that Nanda was suffering from multiple diseases related to kidney and diabetes. The last rites of Nanda have been performed at Puri. According to Chief Medical Officer, Rourkela Government Hospital, Dr. R K Joshi, though there are five positive dengue cases detected in and around Rourkela, no deaths were reported. Rourkela: Odishi Consumer Fair organized by Rourkela Expo Event Management Group at Exhibition Ground near Bhanja Bhawan here concluded yesterday yielding a business of Rs. 1 crore. Organiser of the fair, Sanjiv Nayak, informed that the 15-day fair logged a turnover of Rs. 1 crore. As many as 90 stalls including those of Eureka Forbes, HPL CLF Bulbs, Kent Water Purifier, Cooking home appliances, Honey Wells, Tele Shopping products, Two-wheeler, Chevrolet car demo-cum-sale, Shahranpur (UP) furniture, Vodarai (UP) carpet, Rajasthani bedsheet, pickles, leather bags, ornaments and other ladies items had been put up. Rourkela: Acting on a tip-off, the Udit Nagar Police Station (PS) IIC along with his staff and of other police stations, conducted a raid at the Civil township area and apprehended three persons today, who had assembled there and were planning to commit dacoity. Himanshu Lal, SP, Rourkela in a media brief informed that at around 1.10 am today, IIC, Hadibandhu Swain of Udit Nagar PS received information regarding the assembly of six unknown persons with firearms at a lonely stretch between Sitalpara and Ring Road. They were preparing for an act of dacoity at the Civil Townnship area. Based on the information, he and his team conducted a raid and apprehended three persons from the spot. Rourkela: Congress leader and president of Basti Suraksha Samiti (BSS), Rourkela, Biren Senapati, charged the civic body with failure in selecting the Poor Left Out (PLO) families and in distribution of identity cards to the beneficiaries of various welfare programmes. At a press conference here, Senapati informed that as per directive of the Odisha FS&CW Department, Rourkela Municipality is required to take steps to identify the poorest among poor left out families by constituting a ward level selection committee with priority on PTGS, disabled, poor household, people with AIDS, destitute, elderly persons abandoned by family.
