Dacoity bid foiled, 3 held

Rourkela: Acting on a tip-off, the Udit Nagar Police Station (PS) IIC along with his staff and of other police stations, conducted a raid at the Civil township area and apprehended three persons today, who had assembled there and were planning to commit dacoity.

Himanshu Lal, SP, Rourkela in a media brief informed that at around 1.10 am today, IIC, Hadibandhu Swain of Udit Nagar PS received information regarding the assembly of six unknown persons with firearms at a lonely stretch between Sitalpara and Ring Road. They were preparing for an act of dacoity at the Civil Townnship area. Based on the information, he and his team conducted a raid and apprehended three persons from the spot. The other three managed to escape from the spot under the cover of darkness. Those who were arrested are Siba Pradhan (25), Chinna Pradhan (20) and Puli Rabi (25), all from Ranger Banglo under Kodala PS, Ganjam.

One country-made semi-automatic pistol, five rounds of ammunition, a Bajaj Pulsar, a Hero Honda Super Splendor, Rs. 26,000 cash, a bhujali and a torch light were recovered from them. A case has been registered against them under section 399/402 of IPC/ 25 Arms Act at Udit Nagar Police Station.

Lal said that the accused have been involved in two other cases, Udit Nagar PS case No.- 117 dated 8/9/2012 under section 379/ 34 of IPC and Plant site PS case No.- 192 dated 14/9/2012 under section 379 of IPC. “The accused have been sent to judicial custody after being produced in court,” he said.

Vedvyas Mela kicks off

Rourkela: The 105th Vedvyas Mela was kicked off at the Vedvyas temple on the outskirts of the steel city on Maha Shivratri here last evening. Briefing newsmen on the occasion, Rourkela ADM Rabindranath Mishra spoke on the importance of the Mela and venue saying that the district administration has made elaborate arrangements for the visitors. Besides lightning, health and sanitation measures, adequate police forces have been deployed to oversee law and order situation and traffic. Besides, fire tenders have been also deployed to tackle any fire mishap during the Mela. The Administration has also put up barricades along the rivers bank to restrict the devotees from taking bath, the ADM informed. Stress laid on proper management of water resources

Rourkela: Speakers at seminar laid emphasis on evolving appropriate technology for effective water resources management at the grass-roots level. The seminar on ‘Embedded Electronic System for Water Resource Management’ was recently organized jointly by Civil Engineering Department and Electronics and Communication Engineering Department of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela, and the Department of Water Resources.
