Odisha Government to establish Ultra-modern Filigree Hub in Cuttack

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government has planned to establish an ultra-modern filigree hub in Cuttack under the scheme Assistance to States for Development of Export Infrastructure and Allied Activities (ASIDE).

For this project, the state government has directed the district administration of Cuttack to provide a suitable land for this purpose after a letter served to the latter by the Textiles and Handlooms department recently.

After getting the required land from the district administration, the infrastructural development and construction work of the filigree will be expedited, said Textiles and Handlooms Minister Snehangini Chhuria in the State Assembly here today.

Replying to a question, the Minister said the State Government is committed to the all-round development of the artists who are famous for their handicrafts and silver filigree crafts in state and outside of it. So to boost the filigree craft work of the artisans, the government has planned such project in Cuttack with facilities such as training centre, testing laboratory and sales outlet.

The minister also said according to a survey conducted in 2012, the presence of silver filigree artisans in Cuttack totals to 1216 whereas in Odisha state the strength of filigree artisans counts to 5995.

Prithvi-II test fired successfully

Rourkela: India today successfully test-fired its indigenously developed nuclear capable Prithvi-II missile with a strike range of 350 km from a test range at Chandipur near Balasore. The surface-to-surface missile was test fired from a mobile launcher in salvo mode from launch complex-3 of Integrated Test Range at about 9:21 AM, defence sources said. The launch of the sophisticated missile, conducted as part of operational exercise by the Strategic Force Command (SFC) of the defence services, was successful, they said. “The missile was randomly chosen from the production stock and the total launch activities were carried out by the specially formed SFC and monitored by the scientists of Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) as part of practice drill,” sources said. Focus on strengthening basic policing: Sinha

Rourkela: Newly appointed Superintendent of Police, Amitendra Nath Sinha, said that he will give top to basic policing to deal with law and order and prevention of road accident. Interacting with media persons, Sinha said that a plan is being made to carry out policing with the involvement of all citizens of Rourkela.
