Genuine beneficiaries left out of PLO cards: CPM
Rourkela: The faulty policy of the administration in identifying the
genuine beneficiaries of Poor Left Out (PLO) cards has caused resentment among
the people deprived of this facility. Hundreds of people led by Ajay Sharma,
Secretary of CPI (M), Rourkela Municipality today demonstrated outside the ADM
office.
The
agitators alleged that the state government has not taken the needy and poor
people into account for PLO cards. They alleged that through a survey by the
state government recommended for provision of 26000 PLO cards for Rourkela,
only 9000 cards were distributed.
CPM
activists pointed out a paradoxical situation in which tons of food grains are
rotting in the FCI godowns and even several tons reportedly buried under the
soil, the poor are not provided with food grains.
Sumanta
Behera, Secretary of CPM, alleged that many poor people have been left out of
this scheme. He criticized the government for allegedly dividing the poor and
hungry people on APL/BPL/PLO lines.
The CPM
submitted a memorandum to ADM, urging for a fresh survey on PLO cards for the
needy families.
R N Mishra,
ADM Rourkela, assured them of necessary action to be taken in this regard. ‘We
got only 9000 cards against the requirement of 26000. Only 2549 cards have been
distributed while 1390 cards in both Civil Township and South Rourkela are to
be distributed, he added.
