KISS Student Captain of Odisha Cricket Team

Bhubaneswar: Indrani Chhatria, a student of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), has been chosen the captain of Odisha Women’s U-19 cricket team. This is for the first time a student from KISS got captainship of Odisha girls’ Cricket team. Indrani will lead Odisha team in Under-19 Women T-20 Tournaments. Another KISS student, Sonali Hembram has also found place in the Odisha team. Odisha team will play their first league match on 14th October against Manipur. Other scheduled matches are: with Tripura on 15th October, Mumbai on 18th October, Delhi on 20th October, Maharashtra on 21st October and Arunachal Pradesh on 23rd October. The super league match will start on 27th October. Final match will be held on 4th November 2018. ‘Titli’ after effects trigger rains, Team BMC on action mode

Bhubaneswar: Nearly 120 mm rainfall within 33 hours of time due to the depression caused by the after effects of cyclonic storm ‘Titli’, has once again put the entire workforce of Team BMC on high alert and action mode, to keep the citizens safe. As per the Indian Meteorology Department (IMD) local office, while the city received nearly 97 mm rainfall between 8.30 am on October 11 and 8.30 am today, from 8.30 am till 2.30 pm today, it received more than 20 mm rainfall, causing water-logging in many low-lying areas. The helpline numbers of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) received 37 complaints since last night and all were addressed. While through the Bhubaneswar Operations Centre (BOC) 26 complaints were received till evening hours, through BMC Storm Water Control Room 11 complaints were received. SOA students locate harmful pest in agricultural farm

Bhubaneswar: Students of the Institute of Agricultural Sciences (IAS), faculty of agricultural sciences of SOA (Deemed to be University), have spotted Spodoptera frugiperda, a harmful insect, in the institution’s instructional farm here recently. The insect, which has the potential to destroy over 80 varieties of crops, was first found in Karnataka in May last and was identified by the ICAR-run National Bureau of Agricultural Insect Resources, Bengaluru. According to Prof. Bijoy Kumar Mishra, professor of Entomology at IAS, the pest larva is known as ‘fall armyworm moth’, which flies long distances. Students had first spotted the pest in the instructional farm of  IAS which was subsequently confirmed to be Spodoptera frugiperda, he said. It particularly destroys maize and sugarcane crops and had already been reported from several states including Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, Karnataka and West Bengal. Titli and flood havoc: Odisha government intensifies electricity restoration work

Bhubaneswar: Electricity Distribution System has been very severely affected in the Severe Cyclonic Storm-Titli, in the Southern Districts: Ganjam, Gajpati, Kandhamal and Rayagada. In addition to distribution lines, four major transmission lines: Therubali-Narendrapur, Nrendrapur-Atri, Chatrapur-Ganjam and Rayagada-Akhusingh have also been affected. Various Teams of SOUTHCO and OPTCL have been deployed with required materials and equipment the affected areas for immediate restoration work.Govt. has instructed for intensifying the restoration of Power supply with the priority to essential service ends like Hospitals, Railway Feeders and Water Supply Points.
