Maa Ghara announces 'Women Peace Maker Award' for women

Bhubaneswar: For the first time in Odisha, Maa Ghara Foundation Trust (MGFT) have announced to confer on the best woman with ‘Maa Ghara Woman Peace Maker Award 2014’ for her contribution towards bringing peace at the time of any conflicts.

The award will be given every year on the occasion of International Mother’s Day slated on May 11.

Rutuparna Mohanty, Managing Trustee of MGFT informed that the award is for those women who were contributing a lot at the time of conflicts such as border dispute, violence against women, working in the left wing extremists areas, industrial disputes, displaced area issue and during emergencies.

Elaborating the Nagaland, Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh violence, Mohanty said the women either she may be an able administrator, mediapersons and activists fighting with these issues with an aim to bring peace, are eligible to qualify for the award.

To apply for this award, Maa Ghara has invited applicants through social media, electronics, print media and SMS. Eligible candidates across the country can apply through email- maagharodisha@gmail.com and do SMS on number 7852946110. The submission date of applications by the candidates starts from today and will continue till April 30 this month.

A 15-member jury constituted of administrator, journalist, and activist has been chosen to select five women with most contribution towards peace making in her life time. Then the successful candidates among five whose name will be aired in 92.7 Big FM will be given the award through public opinion by voting method, informed Mohanty.

The award comprises Rs 50,000, a trophy and a citation.

The first time initiative by the MGFT will definitely encourage many women who were left unseen in the society though their contribution towards peace making are high, Mohanty attributed.

Besides, 10 mothers will also be felicitated with the Best Mother award on the occasion. Similarly, various competitions and prize distribution programme will be held in different branches of the trust in various districts, said Mohanty.      

On the occasion, a marathon race ‘Run for Peace’ will also be held starting from Janta Maidan to Jaydev Bhawan here.
