Hockey Legend Ashok Kumar visits Steel City

Rourkela, Aug 11: Hockey Legend, Olympian and Arjuna Awardee, Ashok Kumar who had arrived the Steel City recently on a weeklong visit having kindly accepted the invitation extended to him for meeting the cadets of the SAIL Hockey Academy.

He has been interacting with the budding hockey players and providing them tips in the areas of playing tactical, power and attacking hockey.

GS Prasad, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) met the Hockey legend in his office on August 7 this month. During the meeting, the CEO said, “It is a matter of pride to interact with national icons.” 

Later, while discussing the prospects of providing a further impetus to hockey in the region, Prasad added that the maestro’s hands-on guidance would greatly benefit the budding hockey stars playing for the academy.

Notably, Ashok Kumar is the son of the Greatest Hockey Player the world has ever seen, Major Dhyan Chand. He was a member of the Indian team which lifted the Hockey World Cup in 1975 and was known for his exceptional skills in ball control and as a finisher, being the Right Forward. He is presently the Technical Advisor of the Madhya Pradesh State Hockey Academy.
