Jhirpani team wins Samvardhan Rural Football Tournament organized by RSP

Rourkela, Aug 11: The team from Jhirpani village bagged the Winners’ Trophy in the Samvardhan Rural Football Tournament organized by Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). In a toughly contested final held at Ispat Stadium here yesterday, Jhirpani team from Bisra block defeated the team from Sunmarin village of Lathikata block 3-1 to win the tournament.

Mrs Manjari Prasad, president of Deepika Mahila Sanghati (DMS) graced the concluding function as the Chief Guest. Congratulating the winners and the runners-up team Mrs Prasad, along with Mrs Sharmistha Das, Mrs Jyotsna Acharya and Mrs Sabiata Kumar, all vice presidents of DMS as well as S Pradhan, GM (F&A) and PK Pradhan, GM (TA& CSR) awarded the trophies and certificates to them.

The champion Jhirpani team was presented with a cash award of Rs 10,000 along with a trophy, while the runners-up Sunmarin team was presented with a cash award of Rs 8,000 along with a trophy. The other teams were presented with cash award of Rs. 3000 each.

The guests also presented the individual awards. Best goal keeper award was bagged by Aiju Xalxo of Jhirpani, while the Best defender title went to Uday Toppo of Sunmarin team. Anu Kujur of Jhirpani bagged the Best Scorer award, while Abinash Kujur of Chandiposh was declared as the Man of the Tournament.

Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Prasad praised the initiative of the CSR Department of RSP for conducting such a tournament that will not only promote sports amongst the youngsters of the villages but will also brings to the limelight the budding talents.

Earlier, Dhiren Mishra, AGM (CSR) welcomed the gathering. Krishna Kant, Assistant Manager (CSR) proposed a vote of thanks. Amulya Kumar of CSR Department coordinated the programme.

It is worth mentioning here that the first phase of the tournament was earlier held in 4 blocks, in which 128 teams had participated. The Winner and Runners Up teams from each block participated in the final phase of the tournament played at Rourkela.
