Rourkela, Sept 29: “Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP)’s strength is its people and they will achieve the desired goals,” observed the Panel of Judges for the Prime Minister’s Trophy for the Best Integrated Steel Plant of the country 2013-14 at the closing meeting at Mandira Dam on Sunday.


The panel comprised Dr J N Choubey, former Additional Chief Secretary, Govt. of Karnataka, Dr B N Singh, former-CMD, RINL, K A P Singh, former MD, BSL, Dr T Mukherjee, former Deputy MD, Tata Steel, Prof P K Sen, IIT, Kharagpur, Dr Sanak  Mishra, former MD, RSP, J K Tandon, former CEO,  Essar Steel, K K Mehrotra, former CMD, MECON, Prof N K Chadha, HOD, Psychology, Delhi University and O P Lal, former Minister and Trade Union Leader.

G S Prasad, CEO, RSP, Executive Directors, General Managers and several departmental HODs attended the meeting.

Each member on the Panel was highly appreciative of the efforts taken by RSP for setting on the trajectory which will take it to the elite group of Steel Plants in the country with 4.5 MTPA capacities.

“When people refer to a 4.5 MTPA Plant, Rourkela should come to their minds,” the Panel said.

All members were full of praise for the Clean and Green Steel City, the new Trauma Centre at Ispat General Hospital (IGH) and the various Medical and Social interventions through RSP’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

The Panel also had some valuable advice for the RSP collective to take the Plant into the next level. These ranged from focused R&D, emphasis on ramping up production and to aim for maximum profits.

“You have the potential and with a little more sustained effort, you will take the Plant to the pinnacle of success, which is ‘Shikhar ki Aur’,” the Panel observed.

Earlier in the day, the members went to Ispat Nehru Park and planted saplings. They then visited one of the Model Steel Villages, Ushra where they took stock of the sanitation and water supply system and also visited the Women Resource Centre.

Presentations were also made before the Panel by the Sanjivini QC of HSM and the Think Square QC of OBBP on Saturday evening and by RDCIS on the various R&D Projects on the next day. The Panel left the Steel City on September 28 after a three-day visit.
