SS Mohanty, Director (Technical) SAIL visits RSP

Rourkela, Dec 5: S S Mohanty, Director (Technical) SAIL arrived on a two day visit to Rourkela Steel Plant RSP today.

On his today’s visit to plant, he held a discussion with M K Das, ED (Projects), S K Acharya, ED (Projects), Ashwini Kumar, ED (Works) at CEO’s office regarding the production, productivity, future plans and other important aspects of functioning at RSP. Thereafter, accompanied with SK Acharya and Ashwini Kumar, Mohanty visited Blast Furnace-V.

He also held a meeting with the senior officers of the Plant. Later, he visited the Slab yard, Finishing Line of New plate Mill and the site of the New Hot Strip Mill. In the afternoon, Mohanty interacted with the officers of Finance and Marketing at CEO’s Conference Hall.


Later in the evening, Mohanty chaired a communication exercise on ‘Turnaround Strategy of SAIL’ at Gopabandhu Auditorium that was attended by about 500 employees from various departments of the Plant.

Developmental trial of Astra missile conducted

Rourkela: India today conducted developmental trial of its indigenously developed beyond visual range (BVR) air-to-air missile ‘Astra’ from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, about 15 km from Balasore. The sophisticated missile was test-fired from a launcher in launch pad-2 of the ITR at about 01.25 PM targeting a flying object being supported by a pilotless target air-craft ‘Lakshya’, defence sources said. The single stage, solid fuelled ‘Astra’ missile is more advanced in its category than the contemporary BVR missiles and is capable of engaging and destroying highly manoeuvrable supersonic aerial targets. The 3.8-metre long missile, having a diameter of 178 mm with an overall launch weight of 160 kg, can carry a warhead containing conventional explosives weighing 15 kg. Prithvi-II test fired successfully

Rourkela: India today successfully test-fired its indigenously developed nuclear capable Prithvi-II missile with a strike range of 350 km from a test range at Chandipur near Balasore. The surface-to-surface missile was test fired from a mobile launcher in salvo mode from launch complex-3 of Integrated Test Range at about 9:21 AM, defence sources said. The launch of the sophisticated missile, conducted as part of operational exercise by the Strategic Force Command (SFC) of the defence services, was successful, they said. “The missile was randomly chosen from the production stock and the total launch activities were carried out by the specially formed SFC and monitored by the scientists of Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) as part of practice drill,” sources said.
