Professor B.C Ray inaugurates 'Capacity Building Programme' at NIT Rourkela

Rourkela: Department of Humanities and social sciences of National Institute of Technology (NIT) organized a 14 days course on ‘Capacity Building Programme’ for the faculty members of social science on Friday.  Professor Bankim Chandra Ray, Faculty welfare dean inaugurated the event.


Inaugurating the programme the dean said, “Any growth process should be the part of life and social science is that growth process which is becoming a very important part of life. I congratulate the department of humanities of NITR for organising such a wonderful programme on faculty development. Research and teaching is well connected. Without research teaching is not possible”.

Programme coordinator Dr Narayan Sethi welcomed the particiapants as well as proposed the vote of thanks. Co-course director Dr Nihar Ranjan Mishra informed the participants about the glorious history of department of  Humanities and Social Sciences of NIT Rourkela.


The programme is aimed at improving and upgrading research and teaching-learning process and targets to young faculty in social sciences. Research has become one of the most important aspects in the academic pursuits of higher learning over the world, and it provides solutions to ever-changing human problems.

The training programme also aims to prepare the researchers capabilities to publishable material in the form of articles in journals and books. It will introduce participants to the essential principles, techniques and process of qualitative, quantitative and mixed approaches to research.

It will also deal with the various theoretical and methodological issues involved in such inquiry as well as the strategies and techniques such as research design, methods of qualitative data collection, coding and analysis involved in empirical field research. The programme is fully sponsored by the Indian Council for Social Science Research.
