Anti-Maoist operation launched by Odisha Police, 5 Maoists killed during exchange of fire

Bhubaneswar: Based on credible information about presence of armed CPI (Maoist) group, anti-Maoist operation was launched on Sunday evening in Poplur – Kurmanur forest (Bejangiwada Reserve Forest) area under Kalimela Police Station of Malkangiri district by the District and State Operations Wing by mobilising two units of Special Operations Group.



During the operation, there was exchange of fire between the armed CPI (Maoist) cadres and the Security Forces in Poplur – Kurmanur forest (Bejangiwada RF) in the wee hours of Sunday. Five (05) hardcore CPI (Maoist) cadres (03 males and 02 female cadres) were killed in this operation.

Two SLR rifles, 01 INSAS rifle, one .303 rifle, one grenade and other articles have been recovered from the spot. The identification of the cadres, who were killed in this encounter, is under process.

Considering the fact that Malkangiri district in general and Kalimela PS area in particular is considered to be one of the strongholds of CPI (Maoist), this operation is considered to be a spectacular achievement by the District and Operations Wing of the State Police, which will go a long way in containing the CPI (Maoist) activities in Kalimela PS area of Malkangiri district, said the DGP Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma during a press conference here today.

Santhali writer nominated for Sahitya Academy award

Rourkela: Gangadhar Hansda, a banker and litterateur has been nominated for the prestigious ‘Kendriya Sahitya Academy Award’ for the year 2012 for his collection of short stories in Santhali language, ‘Banchaw Akan Gojhona’. Hansda, an eminent Santhali writer and Santhali culture activist, has devoted himself to the popularization of Santhali literature and culture after retiring as a Branch Manager from Union Bank of India. Green Energy Corporation in State soon: Minister

Rourkela: The Odisha Government is soon going to establish a Green Energy Corporation to promote renewable sources of energy, said State Energy and I & PR Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo while inaugurating an international conference on Solar Energy Photovoltaic at KIIT University at Bhubaneswar today.
