Union Minister Jual Oram to inaugurate the ‘Innovation Carnival’ at NIT Rourkela

Rourkela: Foundation for Technology and Business Incubation (FTBI), NIT Rourkela’s Innovation carnival 2018 will be inaugurated on Saturday by Minister of Tribal Affairs JualOram. Smart city CEO Rashmita Panda and internationally acclaimed fashion designer Bibhu Mohapatra will also grace the occasion.


Professor in-charge of FTBI Rajeev Kumar Panda said, “To celebrate the culture of innovation, NIT Rourkela is organizing the Innovation carnival. This event aims to provide a platform to budding entrepreneurs to realize their startup dreams and nudge them to translate their innovative thinking into developing impactful ventures that would contribute directly to the creation of wealth and well-being of the society. Innovators, Eminent Personalities, Start-ups, students from School and Technical Institutes, Research Scholars, Representatives from supporting agencies, Industries, Quality Circles from various parts of country will be attending the event,” informed Shri Panda.

The bespoke event will comprise of Innovative Exhibition Challenge, Startup Hunt, Inspirational Talks with Experts and Professionals and Panel discussions, session on IPR and Workshops by Startup India, opportunities for idea pitching and business development, mentoring & networking, social innovation exhibition, food innovation events, fun events and cultural nights.


The participants will get the opportunity to showcase their game-changing innovations and creative solutions that impact lives, businesses and the society. They will also get to interact with the few of the best minds in the industry and understand how they can apply emerging technologies to improve the way the world works and lives. It will be a two days programme where Industrial Innovation Exhibition by Quality Circles Forum of India will be organized.

Apart from this a workshop by Startup India will be conducted where Startup India team will encourage the students for Startup Ventures and making them aware of several benefits available under various schemes, benefits under Startup India Programme. In school level Innovation exhibition around projects from different schools will be showcased. In Startup hunt challenge pitch session will be organised for scouting startups ideas. After the inaugural ceremony Union minister Shri Jual Oram will inaugurate the organic farming project of NIT Rourkela.

Santhali writer nominated for Sahitya Academy award

Rourkela: Gangadhar Hansda, a banker and litterateur has been nominated for the prestigious ‘Kendriya Sahitya Academy Award’ for the year 2012 for his collection of short stories in Santhali language, ‘Banchaw Akan Gojhona’. Hansda, an eminent Santhali writer and Santhali culture activist, has devoted himself to the popularization of Santhali literature and culture after retiring as a Branch Manager from Union Bank of India. His contribution to Santhali literature includes short stories, essays, history, one act play and novels. He has published eight books till date. He has also translated several books from Santhali to Odia and the famous ‘Chhamana Atha Guntha’ by Fakirmohan Senapati from Odia to Santhali.  He has co-authored a history and an essay book with his eminent writer wife Damayanti Besra who has already been honored with Kendriya Sahitya Academy award in 2009. Prithvi-II test fired successfully

Rourkela: India today successfully test-fired its indigenously developed nuclear capable Prithvi-II missile with a strike range of 350 km from a test range at Chandipur near Balasore. The surface-to-surface missile was test fired from a mobile launcher in salvo mode from launch complex-3 of Integrated Test Range at about 9:21 AM, defence sources said. The launch of the sophisticated missile, conducted as part of operational exercise by the Strategic Force Command (SFC) of the defence services, was successful, they said. “The missile was randomly chosen from the production stock and the total launch activities were carried out by the specially formed SFC and monitored by the scientists of Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) as part of practice drill,” sources said.
