SAC Rourkela stages demo outside BPUT head office
Rourkela: The members of Student Action Committee (SAC), Rourkela, today
demonstrated outside the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT)
headquarters office, demanding an appropriate legal action against some groups
of students in Bhubaneswar, who are allegedly trying to disturb peace,
discipline and tranquility among the BPUT students. They are allegedly opposed
the issue of BPUT office shifting through social media.
A delegation
of SAC submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor (VC), BPUT Prof. J K
Satpathy and sought his intervention in the matter. They also demanded
immediate action against those students opposing this move.
The SAC
welcomed the Government’s decision for shifting the BPUT headquarter to
Rourkela. They also stated that the then President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam had laid
the foundation stone for the BPUT head office in 2003. After a lot of hurdles,
the BPUT administrative building construction is now completed and handed over
to the VC of the university, they added.
They alleged
that some students of BPUT-affiliated institutions are creating obstruction and
using social media dividing students in Rourkela and Bhubaneswar on the issue
of BPUT headquarter.
SAC said
social media is used for provocative and abusive remarks on the High Court
order. They are desperately trying to create tension and disturbance by halting
college buses, they alleged. These students are demanding to shift BPUT head
office from Rourkela to Bhubaneswar. SAC has wanted the government to act
against these students.
During
discussion with SAC members, Prof. Satpathy stated that as per the recent
government notification, appointment in 67 regular posts of BPUT will be made
by October 31. He said that though the administrative building work is over,
due to security reasons it is not convenient to work there.
