‘Teachers come in different forms’, say CEO, RSP at Teachers’ Day celebration

Rourkela, Sept 5: ‘Teachers come in different forms’, said Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Rourkela Steel Plant while addressing the teachers and the students on September 5 on the occasion of the Teachers Day celebration at Civic Centre here.

The CEO G S Prasad was the chief guest on the occasion.

Recalling the immense contribution for the cause of education by Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, the second President of India whose birthday is celebrated as Teacher’s Day, he urged the teachers to walk the talk.

He extolled the contributions made by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, the missile man of India, in the area of education and the impact on the lives of students. Adding further, he said that learning is a never ending process and one should be ready to learn from everyone including the happening around and the surroundings.

He urged the teachers to invest in students and build great individuals with humane qualities which would benefit the country at large.

Reflecting on the present educational mode, he stressed upon the need to come out of the ‘Placement Theory’ of education and use education as a means for the holistic development of the child.

The CEO inaugurated the function by paying floral tribute to Late Dr S Radhakrishnan and lighting the ceremonial lamp.

Present on the occasion were MK Das, ED (Projects), Ashwini Kumar, ED (Works), Mrs Sabita Kumar, Vice President of Deepika Mahila Sanghati, Dr AK Singh, Director (M&HS), SN Nayak, General Manager (Town Services & CSR), the guest speakers, Dr (Mrs) Rita Ray, Professor & Head of the Department of Sociology of Utkal University, Dr Kumarbar Das, Vice Chancellor of Fakir Mohan University in Balasore, principals of educational institutions and senior officers of RSP.

Prasad felicitated the two eminent guest speakers. Earlier an opening song ‘Guru Vandana’ was presented by the choir group of Ispat English Medium School, Sector-20, followed by a presentation of a short documentary on the life of Dr S Radhakrishnan.

‘Freedom of thought is the hallmark of education’, said the guest speaker Dr Das. He stated that the goal of education is education of soul aimed at producing a complete human being. He asked the teacher to strive for becoming great teachers and not just good or popular ones.

Dr (Mrs) Ray spoke about the Right to Education as enshrined in the constitution. She emphasised the need to bridge the gap between the student and the teachers.
