RMS demands hike in contractual workers’ wages
Rourkela: President of Rourkela Mazdoor Sabha (RMS) Krushna Chandra Patra,
expressed concern over the pitiable condition of the contractual workers in the
Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). He demanded hike of minimum wages of contractual
workers to Rs. 10,000 to meet the challenges in the time of high inflation.
Speaking at
the 34th Biennial conference of RMS held at Bastia Smruti Sadan, Sector-6, here
today, Patra alleged that though demand for increase of pay scale has been
taken up at the meetings of National Joint Committee for Steel (NJCS) Industry
meetings, the SAIL management has not yet finalized the new pay scale.
The RMS
president demanded regularization of worker’s posts. He observed that private
parties have gained more from the contractual appointment of workers.
He paid
tributes to former union leaders like Rajkishore Samantaray, Biswanath Pandit,
Dhabaleswar Bastia and others.
The RMS
meeting discussed a number of issues on improvement in production, productivity,
profit in RSP, decent wage, in-time promotion, grade, grievance, bonus,
gratuity, environment safety, house maintenance, water and electricity supply
to colony, proper road maintenance, welfare, periphery development and social
security benefits for both
permanent and temporary workers of the company.
Commerce and
Transport Minister Subrat Tarai, being the Chief Guest, spoke on the occasion,
recalling the contribution of Late Biju Patnaik towards Rourkela Steel Plant.
He also said Biju babu’s son Naveen Patnaik is also following his path in
fighting for workers plight.
RMS leaders
pointed out on the huge neglect been done towards the workers' problems and
voiced all to organize protest on December 20 this year in front of Parliament
and a two-day protest on February 20 and 21, 2013 in every state by all central
trade unions if the demands of the RSP workers and others are not met.”
Among
others, Sarada Nayak, Rourkela MLA, Ananda Mohanty, BJD leader, Jogendranath
Tripathy, General Secretary of HMS, Bidyadhar Barik, working President, HMS and
other members and workers of RMS and HMS were present on the Conference.
