Tension erupts over sub-standard work

Rourkela: Tension gripped the slum area in the Sector-6 today over
allegation of sub-standard work of a school building with two groups clashing
with each other. One persons sustained injuries during the clash.

Pani, a resident of Bidyanagari basti, said that Bhaskar Nanda, a teacher of
Bidyanagari Primary School at Sector-6 (H-Block) today attacked Khirodh Chandra
Mohanty, president of Basti Bidyanagari Welfare Committee. The injured has been
admitted to Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH).
Pani alleged
that Nanda had undertaken the construction work of the school building. The
slum dwellers had accused Nanda of compromising with quality of construction
work, for which Rs. 5 lakh had been sanctioned.
Pani also
alleged that Nanda is also indulged in selling sand and cements illegally to
the outsources hampering the construction work of the school building. Nanda’s
close associates Amarnath Jena and Basant Kumar Das always helped him and
protected Nanda from every action put by the Basti people. Though Basant Kumar
Das is not the member of the School Management Committee, he interfere in every
matter with Bhaskar Nanda, added Pani in anger.

Mohanty, wife of injured person Khirodh said, “After a complaint made by her
husband regarding the low-standard work of the school rooms. Bhaskar Nanda to
protect himself from being accused attacked my husband hard in reply.”
She alleged
that many a times Bhaskar and his associates had threatened my husband and her
family to keep silence regarding the above matter. Today these people showed
their power in attacking my husband.
However,
Nanda rubbished the allegation against him as false. FIRs have been lodged with
police from the two sides.
