RSP’s Annual Horticulture Show draws huge crowd
Rourkela: Indira Gandhi Park in the Steel City turned into a veritable paradise
with hundreds of varieties of flowers, fruits and vegetables on display at the
47th annual Horticulture Show, organized by the Horticulture wing of Rourkela
Steel Plant (RSP) on February 10, 2013.
Thousands of visitors thronged the show and devoured the beauty and
splendor of nature. Inaugurating the show, G S Prasad, CEO, RSP said, “Rourkela
is the greenest and the most beautiful of all steel cities and we should be
proud of this fact.”
He hoped that the Rourkelites’ love for gardens, greenery and flowers
would be further enhanced in the days to come and the show would be one of the
largest and the most attractive shows in the eastern region.
More than 41.5 lakh trees, planted in the township and steel plant, have
not only added to the beauty of the city but also helped in improving the environment
of the area, the CEO said while highlighting the “Aamara Bagicha” scheme
introduced in RSP for the employees to develop small gardens near their
departments.
The show brought together 1,179 entries for competitions held in different
categories of garden layout, flowers, vegetables, fruits, bonsais, cacti, flower
vase arrangement, bouquet making, fruit bowl arrangement and dinner bowl
arrangement. In all 296 prizes were distributed to the winners in various
categories. P R Mohanty bagged the V Subramony Challenge Cup for highest
average points in all categories as well as the Managing Director’s Trophy.
H Mishra, AGM, Horticulture department welcomed the guests on the occasion
while S Mishra, Curator of the same department, proposed the vote of thanks.
Among others, Manjari Prasad, President, Deepika Mahila Sanghati, S N
Roy, ED (Works), D Basu, ED (P&A), R K Nehru, ED (MM), M K Das, ED
(Projects), Sisir Acharya, ED (Projects), P K Pradhan, GM (TA&CSR), senior
officers of RSP and members of Deepika Mahila Sanghati were present on the
occasion.
