Asst. Teacher honoured in Sri Lanka

Rourkela: Susmita Mahapatra, an assistant teacher of Government High School, Uditnagar here attended the 10th AIPC International Congress, Srilanka, held at Colombo from Oct 9 to Oct 13, 2012 where she received the ‘Sanghamitra of the Age’ award and was crowned as ‘Miss Colombo’ by A Natrajan, the Indian High Commissioner.

She was selected from Odisha along with 26 other poets from other states of India at the All India Poetess Conference, which was founded by Dr Lari Azad in 2000. She had presented her research paper on upliftment of women.

Photos that speak ‘in defence of civilization’

Rourkela: ‘A picture says a thousand words’ is an adage that aptly describes photographs by  A N Maniyappan, which were on display at 8 th National Conference of Steel Worker’s Federation of India (SWFI) at Bhanja Bhawan. The 68-year old man from Ernakulam district of Kerela, exhibited his rare photographs and collected ones on the theme ‘In defence of Civilization’. The exhibition featured 400 collections of photographs on a wide range of subjects. The subjects of these photographs are about martyrs’ column, civilization, humanity, golden era of movements, loot of national property, historic moments, anti-communalism, capitalism, imperialism, industrial revolution, trade unionism, and movement against liberalism and steel workers’ movement. Railway Minister slashes Rs. 60 crore from budgetary allocation

Rourkela: The state again got a step-motherly treatment from the Union Railway Minister as it has slashed Rs. 60 crore in the budgetary allocation for 2012-13 for railway projects in the state. It has already pruned Rs. 220 crore in two phases in July and September this year. The ministry has cut Rs. 15 crore for the long-delayed Khurda Road-Bolangir rail link and the same amount has been decreased in the allocation for Talcher-Bimlagarh rail line while Sambalpur-Talcher doubling project has got an allocation with a slash of Rs. 30 crore. Earlier in the current fiscal, the Central government had made a budgetary provision for the Khurda Road-Bolangir rail link by cutting about Rs. 42 crore. Allocation for Talcher-Bimlagarh line and Sambalpur-Talcher doubling project were reduced by Rs. 32 crore and Rs. 44 crore respectively. In September, the Railways Ministry had cut Rs. 34 crore from the budgetary allocation for the state. In June, the ministry had also slashed Rs. 18
