RSP, district administration celebrate Gandhi Jayanti

Rourkela: The Steel City joined the nation in celebrating the 143rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi today. A grand function was organized by the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) and the District Administration, Rourkela at Civic Centre here to mark the occasion.

Eminent personalities, including RSP CEO, G S Prasad; Rourkela Sub-Collector, S Mishra; president of city-based philanthropic organization Deepika Mahila Sanghati, Manjari Prasad; and State Government officials and other eminent citizens of the Steel City were present on this occasion.

The celebration began with the mellifluous rendering of Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite prayer, ‘Baishnaba Janato….’ by Ashalata Sarangi, an eminent singer of the City. An all-religion prayer meeting was also held to mark the occasion. The celebrations concluded with the collective reciting of Bapuji’s favourite Ramdhun ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram….Pati Tapabana Sita Ram….’

The ambience of devotion, duty and serenity created by the songs and holy verses of Shrimad Bhagawat Gita, Koran and Bible held the audience in thrall and once again reiterated the Steel City’s pledge to follow the ideals of the Mahatma.

Vedvyas Mela kicks off

Rourkela: The 105th Vedvyas Mela was kicked off at the Vedvyas temple on the outskirts of the steel city on Maha Shivratri here last evening. Briefing newsmen on the occasion, Rourkela ADM Rabindranath Mishra spoke on the importance of the Mela and venue saying that the district administration has made elaborate arrangements for the visitors. Besides lightning, health and sanitation measures, adequate police forces have been deployed to oversee law and order situation and traffic. Besides, fire tenders have been also deployed to tackle any fire mishap during the Mela. The Administration has also put up barricades along the rivers bank to restrict the devotees from taking bath, the ADM informed. Rourkela: A sophisticated Automated Blood Cell Separator was installed at the RSP-run Ispat General Hospital (IGH) here yesterday. The state-of-the-art Blood Cell Separator is a Mobile Collection System and operates on the highly updated apheresis technology. It is a highly mobile, compact and lightweight total apheresis system and technically advanced. Once the operator initiates the MCS+ procedure, this sophisticated separator automatically removes whole blood from a donor, separates the blood into components (red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma, and platelets), retains one or more of the components, and returns the reminder of the blood to the donor. It takes comparatively less time (60 to 65 minutes) for the programme to run. The components obtained are transfused or used to prepare blood products for administration.
