CPM slams economic reforms of UPA-II
Rourkela: The CPM today lambasted the Congress-led UPA for the present
economies policies and reforms including opening FDI in retail. This policy
will leave an adverse impact on the interests of workers and the common people
in the country, said Janardan Pati, secretary of the state unit of CPI (M) at a
press meet held at A.K.G. Bhawan on yesterday.
Pati alleged
that the FDI in multi-brand retail trade under the pretext of economic reforms
will spell doom for developing countries like India. He stated that attempts
are being made to do away with the public sector undertakings while private
sectors are given push.
Even as
suicide of farmers continues in the country, about 4 crore people are reeling
under unemployment, the CPM leader lamented. Other decisions of UPA-II
government like hike in diesel prices and cap on LPG cylinders are anti-people,
he alleged and added that the Central government has allowed Rs. 5, 28,000
crore rupees subsides to rich industrial houses, thereby adding burden on the
poor people.
Apprehending
that opening the gate for foreign investors will create a lot of problems for
traders and small shopkeepers, the CPM leader said that the party will protest
it outside the Parliament in coming days.
Other CPM leaders including Bishnu
Mohanty, Biman Maity, Banamali Dhupal, Jahangir Ali, Ramesh Jena, Rajkishore
Pradhan, Pratap Nayak and Pravat Mohanty were present.
