NIT adds two more awards to its cap

Rourkela: National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, has bagged two awards- National Education Leadership Award and Out-standing Engineering Institute in the Eastern zone Award which made this institute in adding two more coveted awards to its cap in recognition of its leadership, development, marketing and Institute-and-industry interface. 

NIT director Prof. Sunil Sarangi was honoured with National Education Leadership Award and NIT Rourkela awarded with the outstanding Engineering Institute in the Eastern zone.

The award ceremony was held on February 16 this month at Hotel Taj Lands End, Mumbai. The awards were chosen by an independent jury and a panel of professionals. Prof. Sarangi was happy for the coveted awards for the institute.

The award constituted by World Education Congress and B-School Affairs were presented by ET-Now. The two awards were received by R K Sinha, Secretary, Public Relation of NIT, Rourkela on behalf of the director and the Institute.

Prof. Sarangi was congratulated by the students and staff of NIT. Sinha stated that the awards were the result of dedication, diligence, team work and above all the visionary leadership of Prof. Sarangi.

Prithvi-II test fired successfully

Rourkela: India today successfully test-fired its indigenously developed nuclear capable Prithvi-II missile with a strike range of 350 km from a test range at Chandipur near Balasore. The surface-to-surface missile was test fired from a mobile launcher in salvo mode from launch complex-3 of Integrated Test Range at about 9:21 AM, defence sources said. The launch of the sophisticated missile, conducted as part of operational exercise by the Strategic Force Command (SFC) of the defence services, was successful, they said. “The missile was randomly chosen from the production stock and the total launch activities were carried out by the specially formed SFC and monitored by the scientists of Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) as part of practice drill,” sources said. Developmental trial of Astra missile conducted

Rourkela: India today conducted developmental trial of its indigenously developed beyond visual range (BVR) air-to-air missile ‘Astra’ from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, about 15 km from Balasore. The sophisticated missile was test-fired from a launcher in launch pad-2 of the ITR at about 01.25 PM targeting a flying object being supported by a pilotless target air-craft ‘Lakshya’, defence sources said. The single stage, solid fuelled ‘Astra’ missile is more advanced in its category than the contemporary BVR missiles and is capable of engaging and destroying highly manoeuvrable supersonic aerial targets. The 3.8-metre long missile, having a diameter of 178 mm with an overall launch weight of 160 kg, can carry a warhead containing conventional explosives weighing 15 kg.
