Rourkela Book Fair ends with Rs 2-crore business


Rourkela: The just concluded 20th edition of Rourkela Book Fair-2013 at Bhanja Bhawan ground yesterday recorded business turnover to the tune of Rs. 2 crore.

“The fair received very good response over the weekend. On Sunday, the fair witnessed over 10,000 footfalls,” said general secretary of Rourkela Book Fair, Gopinath Pattnaik.

Thousands of visitors thronged from in and around Rourkela in these 10-days book fair, organized by Adarsha Pathagar, Rourkela. Pattnaik said this time the fair has made turnover of Rs. 2 crore.

Business turnover is due to increase of more days and stalls this time in the book fair here. This year we had put 113 numbers of stalls as against 102 last year. Till 19th edition we had eight days duration to exhibit this event. But from this year edition we had 10 days duration and it will continue with same days after this year, informed Pattnaik.

As many as 113 publishers and book stores from across the country had participated in the fair. The publishers who took part in the book fair included Modern Books, Wonderland and Good Books from Kolkata, Sahitya Bhawan from Agra, Janak Books from Delhi, Santosh, Prakash Depot from Bhubaneswar. Students Store, Manorama, Jagannath, Bidyapuri, Agradut, Satyanarayan and Sarala Book stores from Cuttack, Radhanath Store, Bibek Book Store from Berhampur and Anil, Shibashakti, Hareram and Sagarika book stores from Rourkela.

Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the book fair, Minister of Commerce and Transport Subrat Tarai lauded the organizers of the fair. He said that this book fair had helped students, teachers and intellectuals greatly. “It provided a big platform for exchange of ideas among writers and readers,” Tarai added.

Arihant Publication had exhibited a wide range of books for school and college students such as competitive text and resource books on IIT-JEE, AIEEE, CAT, MAT, XAT, MCA, GATE, IES, IAS, OAS, banking, defence, entrance books for engineering, management and medical students. Apart from publications of Sahitya Academy, spiritual books were also on display by Gita Press, Gorakhpur, Gayatri Book Stall, Art of Living and Siridi Sai Stall.

Competitions for school children in drawing, dance and quiz were organized during the book fair in which 300 and more children had participated from 80 schools of Rourkela, informed organizers.

A sahitya patrika, ‘Rourkela Pustak Mela Halchal’, a guide book about the history of Rourkela Book Fair edited and compiled by Mahendra Mishra and a web site ‘www.adarshapathagar.org’ of Adarsha Pathagar were also launched on the occasion.
