Rourkelites enjoys dog show at large, exposed to 15 breeds of canines


Rourkela: Steel City’s dog lovers witnessed today a unique get together of canines belonging to 15 popular breeds; all pets have come with their family members and participated in the dog show, organized by Rourkela Pet Lovers Club in coordination with Sub-divisional Veterinary Department, Panposh at Udit Nagar Ground here.

One-of-its-kind events, with more than 100 participants with their pet dogs of 15 popular breeds have come from in and around Rourkela having stolen the show with presence of hundreds of fans.

“To create awareness about these canines and to show people about their behavior, work, friendliness and acknowledging about different breeds, such type of show we have organized here”, informed Mihir Ray, organizer of the Show. He said people neglect these animals adding these animals not only pets but also leans and perform tasks to assist and entertain the humans.

Opening the show, Jagbir Singh DIG, CISF Rourkela shared his feelings about these pets after inspecting different breeds of dogs saying these pets are very human companions. Irrespective of its breeding, they help people in many ways like giving security, perform during search and rescue, and do other exercises. In paramilitary mostly German Shepherd, Labrador, Doberman breeds dogs are used and were getting trained to perform different operations like detection of hazardous things, law enforcement, search and rescue, hunting, entertainment, protecting people or property and in doing other exercises, he maintained.

Labrador, Golden Retriever, Shih-Tzu, Doberman, Pug, German Shepherd, Lhasa-apso, Great-Dane, Alsatian, Dalmatian, Mongorial, Dachshund, Beagle, Mischief, Neapolitan Mastiff, Saint Bernard including some Indian breeds canines were showcased in the dog show by different participants.

On the show, CISF trained dogs performed various skills such as executing parade, saluting the guests, tracing unidentified objects, persons, jumping the hurdles, and other exercises that received a lot of applause from the large audience present on the ground. One of the Jawan said these dogs were trained for nine months to perform these demos here in order to create a constructive awareness about dogs among the audience to care these pets.

Prashana Maharana, nodal officer, SDVO Panposh informed that dogs may not show full growth and complete breed characteristics until proper nutritional food is given to them. They require more proteinous diet to stay healthy in order to perform skills and giving security to us.

Jyoti Dang, a participant from Hamirpur who was with her Shih-Tzu breed dog said, “I brought this dog from Thailand and got an opportunity to present my dog before audience so that they can be exposed to this kind of breed.”

Another Kiran Aggarwal who was with her Pug breed dog said, “This pet helps us in many ways in our home. Pugs are strong willed but rarely aggressive and suitable for families with children”. Talking on the importance of this breed she said this type of breed perform in Vodafone advertisements which is amiable, and playful. The best part of the breed is very fond of children and sturdy enough to properly play with them but depending on their owner’s mood, they can be quiet and docile but also vivacious and teasing, she added.

Madhuri Mohanty, a spectator said, “In this dog show, I learned about different breeds of dogs and I was glad to see so many cute dogs performing different skills that I have never seen before”. Dogs does help human in so many ways therefore one needs to care these pets in large, she added.
