RCCI pushes for revival of sick MSMEs
Rourkela: Members of Rourkela Chamber of Commerce and Industry
(RCCI) held an interactive session to discuss problems and to suggest ways for
functioning of sick industrial units in Sundargarh district. The meeting also
took up discussion on pitiable state of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises
(MSME) in the state.
Speaking on the occasion, president of RCCI, Mahesh J
Vajir, said that growth and development of industries started in 2000 after Chief
Minister Naveen Patnaik assumed power in the State, he added. The government
embarked upon a massive industrialization programme with focus on ‘Value
addition to minerals’ for which a number of MoUs were signed for Steel,
Aluminium, Power, Ferro Alloys and Port projects, Vajir stated.
The RCCI president said that industrialists from all over
the country and abroad are heading towards Odisha, which expects to see
economic resurgence. Development of new ports, infrastructure and railway
network is contributing to GDP growth in Odisha, he observed. Sadly, the
present gloom of global recession has affected economy of the country, he rued.
Vajir dwelt on various hurdles faced by trade and industry and more on MSMEs
problems that the entrepreneurs suffer for.
Director of Industries (DI), Nityananda Palai advocated
for expeditious steps for revival of sick units through financial assistance
under rehabilitation programme. Some registered MSME units have submitted their
rehabilitation proposal at the GM, Regional Industries Centre (RIC), Rourkela
and the Branch Manager OSFC Rourkela, he informed.
Palai added that big and small industries are an integral
part of the economy. There are 2.6 million MSMEs in India providing employment
to 6 crore people, he added.
The entrepreneurs suggested setting up one more
Industrial Estate (IE) at Rourkela. Vajir urged the DI for providing water and
power at reasonable tariff.
S K Hota, General Manager, RIC Rourkela, said, “We have
received proposal from 102 sick units for their revival while these industries
have to submit all-related documents that to be discussed at the district level
committee in the presence of district Collector.”
IDCO and Director of Industries of the State have been planning
to seek patches of land for the interested entrepreneurs to develop industries
here and the officials will hold a meeting with Tahsildar of Lathikata, Panposh
and Kuarmunda in this regard.
