BPUT students distraught at exam cancellation
Rourkela: Students who were all set to write their Control System
Engineering (CSE) papers as part of the ongoing fifth semester examination of
the B.Tech course of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) today are a
distraught lot.
The cancellation
of the CSE paper at the last minute following the leak of the question paper last
night has left the students fuming. “All the hard work that I had put in and
the sleepless nights that I had spend in preparing for the paper have now gone
down the drain. I will have to do it all over again,” said a student who did
not want to be named.
Another
student who also requested anonymity squarely blamed the Director of
Examination and others responsible for the conduct of examinations for the
mess. Angry parents and guardians are blaming BPUT authorities, including the
vice chancellor, and the state government for their lackadaisical attitude
towards the conduct of examinations which had put the careers of their wards in
jeopardy. “Thousands of students suffer every year due to the devil-may-care
attitude of the authorities,” said one of them.
Meanwhile,
BPUT Registrar Prof. B L Aggarwal has promised a thorough inquiry into the
leakage of the question paper. “We have formed an inquiry committee of our own
to probe the leak. A meeting in this regard would soon be held in Bhubaneswar. Besides,
we will also have the whole thing inquired by the police or the CBI as the case
may be,” he said.
Admitting
that the leak of question paper was a ‘shame’ for the university, Prof.
Aggarwal said it was being investigated where exactly the leak had occurred. “The
culprits would be caught soon,” he said.
The Registrar
said he came to know about the leak at about 11.30 pm last night.
BPUT sources
said the Principals/Directors of all constituent and affiliated colleges have
been requested not to open the sealed question packets and return them back to
the BPUT camp office Gandamunda, Bhubaneswar. The revised date of examination
shall be notified later, they said.
