Swadeshi Mela expects more than Rs. 70 lakh business
Rourkela: The 14th Swadeshi Mela, which
kick-started at Bhanja Bhawan Exhibition Ground yesterday, is expected to post
a business of more than Rs. 70 lakh this year. The 9-day mela, organized by the
Centre for Bharatiya Marketing Development (CBMD), Rourkela, registered a
turnover of Rs. 10 lakh on the second day today.
As many as 168 stalls have been put up by various
industries, farmers and traders with exhibitions of their products.
A wide range of products including Swadeshi handicrafts,
handlooms, terracotta, furniture, household products, fabrics and hosiery,
tools, jewellery, herbal products, cottage and small industry products,
carpets, pottery and interior decoration have been put on sale. Electronics brand
majors including Onida, Usha, IFB, Crompton Greaves, Bajaj,
Prestige, Godrej, Cookwell, Glen, Solar System, Parilion, etc., have also put
up their stalls in the trade fair.
Apart
from this, other stalls like NSIC, Haldiram, GITS, Grihasthi, Mother Pickles,
Cycles, Agarbati, Anmol Biscuit, Ruchi, Tata Tea, Shree Khetra Masala, Emami,
Dabur and Motors bikes stalls like Tata Motors, Mahindra, TVS, Hero and Bajaj.
There were also stalls of insurance companies like LIC, Indian Postal Services,
ICICI and SBI. Study centre stall from Focus life is also exhibited in this
mela.
The organizer informed that trade fair had done a
business to the tune of Rs. 70 lakh last year while this year it may cross the
target with more business.

Prasad, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) said that
such Melas provide platforms to artisans to showcase their products, apart from
encouraging the medium and small-scale entrepreneurs to sell their swadeshi
products.
Prasad
further said on organizing this type of Mela here, it provides a platform to
unemployed persons getting to self-employed thereby showcasing their different
home-made products from the respective places of our country. It will be an
encouraging factor for medium and small-scale entrepreneurs to stall their
swadeshi products and in doing hefty business with increasing competitions
among themselves.
Elaborating
on the need of swadeshi products, Prasad said in these days’ people depends
more on foreign goods thereby neglecting our country made products. So every
year it is a good initiative undertaken by the CBMD organizers in organizing
this type of Mela in Rourkela thus promoting the national economy in Bharatiya
way. It helps in providing all swadeshi items at one ground with different
brands which will be easier for the people of Rourkela in doing well
business.
Special attraction in this Mela is Property Mela and Road
Rider (NIT) stalls.
The
Swadeshi Mela was co-sponsored by Grihasti Masala, Aliva Constructions, Green India
Pariwar, Su-Kam, online media partner by Getit and Courtesy by Kitchen
Appliances, Uditnagar.
The
entry fee on this trade fair is Rs. 2 and vehicle parking fee is Rs. 5.
