Camp registers 593 disabled persons


Rourkela: The Women and Child Welfare Department in collaboration with the district administration and Rourkela Municipality successfully organized a camp for the differently-abled persons to provide them various benefits being provided by the government. These are disability certificates, related equipments, check-ups and identity cards. As many as 593 disabled persons turned for the camp.

Christened as ‘Bhimabhoi Disabled Samarthya Sibira (BDSS)’, the camp was held at Town High School in Local Daily Market here today.

The physically challenged persons categorized as Mental Retardation (MR), Cerebral Palsy (CP), Orthopedic Handicapped (OH), Visually Handicapped (VH) and Hearing Handicapped (HH) were registered so as to give them certificates, check health, disability pension, rail pass, bus pass and income certificate including Photography section for final result. For this, various counters were put up in different classrooms of the School in order to register and doing documentation of these differently-abled persons categorically.

Officials sources said a total of 593 differently-abled persons have been registered in different categories like MR/CP, OH, VH and HH. From the total of 593, 415 are male and 178 are female. After their documentation and proper check-ups were done, the actual list will be prepared for issuing of certificate to the disabled persons, informed Sunil Kumar Naik, Social Education Organiser, Rourkela Municipality.

In the meantime, as many as 365 disabled persons were identified for various certificates, of which 198 were OH, 36 VH, 56 HH and 75 MR said Naik. 225 of them applied for disability pension certificate.

On asked about providing disability equipments to the beneficiaries, Naik replied, about 50 Tri-cycles, 80 Wheelchairs, clutches and hearing equipments will be provided later after finalizing the list. In these days to come, we will organize another programme in which the disabled equipments will be distributed to the actual beneficiaries.

The Assessment and Measurement camp under Central ADIP scheme was organized by Regional Rehabilitation and Research centre, Rourkela.

Notably, BDSS camp was held fourth time in Rourkela since 2008.

Rourkela ADM, Rabindranath Mishra, Panposh Sub-Collector, Shyam Bhakt Mishra, Rourkela Municipality Executive Officer Bijay Kumar Swain and Rourkela DIPRO Ajay Kumar Jena had inspected the camp while 11 doctors from Ispat General Hospital, Rourkela Government Hospital, Hi-tech Medical College and Hospital and Sub-divisional Hospital Panposh took part in the camp.
