Six departments of RSP recommended for ISO 9001:2008 QMS Certification

Rourkela: Six more departments of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) have been recommended for receiving the ISO 9001:2008 QMS (Quality Management System) certification.

These departments are Crane Maintenance, Energy Management, Refractory Engineering Services, Civil Engineering Services, Pipe Coating Plant and Water Management Department, RSP sources said today. 

This was declared after the second surveillance audit conducted by the auditors of M/s TUV India Limited from January 14 to 18 last.

Apart from the new units, the auditors- S Talukdar and B B Majumdar- also recommended continuation of the QMS certification to the previously certified departments from the works area.

In the closing meeting held at the ED (Work) Conference Hall under the chairmanship of S N Roy, ED (Works) on last day, both the auditors commended the robust management system prevalent in RSP which has resulted in the consistent improvement in the plant’s performance. “With more number of units coming into the fold of ISO 9001, this culture of discipline and systematic functioning will spread further,” they added. D K Mishra, DGM (Business Excellence- TQM) coordinated the meeting.

It is may be mentioned that all the production departments of RSP are certified with ISO 9001 QMS.

Green Energy Corporation in State soon: Minister

Rourkela: The Odisha Government is soon going to establish a Green Energy Corporation to promote renewable sources of energy, said State Energy and I & PR Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo while inaugurating an international conference on Solar Energy Photovoltaic at KIIT University at Bhubaneswar today. Speaking at the conference organised by the School of Electronics Engineering of KIIT University, the Minister said that renewable energy sources like solar energy have great importance as those are not finite like natural fuels such as coal and petroleum. Prithvi-II test fired successfully

Rourkela: India today successfully test-fired its indigenously developed nuclear capable Prithvi-II missile with a strike range of 350 km from a test range at Chandipur near Balasore. The surface-to-surface missile was test fired from a mobile launcher in salvo mode from launch complex-3 of Integrated Test Range at about 9:21 AM, defence sources said. The launch of the sophisticated missile, conducted as part of operational exercise by the Strategic Force Command (SFC) of the defence services, was successful, they said. “The missile was randomly chosen from the production stock and the total launch activities were carried out by the specially formed SFC and monitored by the scientists of Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) as part of practice drill,” sources said.
