RSP records best performance in 2012


Rourkela: Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of the Maharatna Company Steel Authority of India (SAIL), has registered all time best production figures in all major areas including Hot Metal, Crude Steel and Saleable Steel in the calendar year 2012 as well as the first three quarters (April-December) of the current fiscal year.

According to a RSP official statement, the Plant produced 2.37 million tonnes (MT) of Hot Metal, 2.22 MT of Crude Steel and 2.13 MT of Saleable Steel in the calendar year 2012, thereby registering an increase of 4.8 per cent, 4 per cent and 4.1 per cent in the respective areas over the previous year. Besides in the production of HR Coil (Total), Spiral Weld pipes, Galvanized sheets, ET plates and CRNO steel, the Steel plant recorded growth of 4.3 per cent, 7 per cent, 6.9 per cent, 11.5 per cent and 7.4 per cent respectively over the calendar year 2011.

In the areas of Blast Furnace productivity, Coke rate, Caster yield of the Steel Melting Shops, Plate Mill and energy conservation the Steel Plant clocked its best performance in the year 2012.

Similarly in the April-December period RSP made 1.76 MT of Hot Metal, 1.64 MT of Crude Steel and 1.57 MT of Saleable Steel, thereby registering improvements of 3.7 per cent, 3.1 per cent and 3.9 per cent respectively over the corresponding period last year. In key Techno-economic parameters like Coke Rate, Blast Furnace productivity and Specific Energy Consumption too the Steel Plant recorded the best ever April-December performance.

It is noteworthy that in the Mass Contact exercise held at Gopabandhu Auditorium, G S Prasad, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), RSP congratulated the RSP collective on its stupendous performance and exhorted it to continue the record breaking spree.
