Rogue elephant dies after killing seven

Rourkela: A rogue elephant, which had triggered panic having killed seven people in the interior parts of Odisha’s Sundargarh district, died this afternoon on a hill top where it was kept tied after getting tranquillized, official sources said.

Arjun Behera, divisional forest officer (DFO) of Sundargarh said the jumbo died despite all efforts to save it. “It is really tragic because the expert team from Nandankanan did its level best to save it. But unfortunately, it all went in vain”, he said.

The male pachyderm had fallen sick after being tranquilized by a team of experts on January 7. It had recovered a little yesterday, officials said.

Before being tranquilized, it had killed seven persons since the night of December 25.
