AAP decries atrocities against women

Bhubaneswar: Activists of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) State unit on Wednesday took out an awareness rally here to sensitize people about the rising atrocities against women in the State and their safety to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.

Holding banner with the theme ‘True Swaraj is dignity for women- Stop violence against women’ and placards, people from different walks of life participated in the rally which originated from Vani Vihar square and reached Master Canteen square. The activists demanded strict implementation of laws related to check the atrocities against women.

“Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri were always fighting to eliminate discrimination against women in the country. They had dreamt a lot about the welfare of women. But unfortunately, our country so also our State is witnessing atrocities against women every day.  The rape and murder of a Dalit girl in Pipili and a paramedical student in Delhi last year narrate the real status of women which reflects the standard and level of civilization we and our society have,” said AAP convenor Nishikant Mohapatra.
