Commissionerate Police observes 54th Police Commemoration Day

Bhubaneswar: Paying respect to policemen who died in line of duty, the Commissionerate Police (Bhubaneswar-Cuttack) observed 54th Police Commemoration Day at Reserve Police ground here on Monday. The top most officials of the Commissionerate were present in the ceremony.

The day is observed in honour of 10 CRPF jawans who died in India-China war in 1959.

Additional Police Commissioner Dr Santosh Bala who was the chief guest of the ceremony said that October 21 is observed as police martyr’s day to commemorate and pay tribute to those dedicated brave souls who made sacrifices in laying down their lives in the service of the nation.

Dr Bala recollecting the history said, “We commemorate the day for those brave jawans who gave life to guarantee our security.” Unfortunately six brave jawans lost their lives in Odisha but this number is less than previous year and step need to be taken to decrease this number, she added. 

The name of the deceased police personnel was read out by the police officials during the commemoration day parade. More than 500 police personnel were killed all over the country on duty during 2012-13, the police sources said.

Among others, retired top most police officials, Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police Nitinjeet Singh, ACPs and IICs of the Commissionerate Police were present.
